CP (IX, pp. 425-6) is fairly adamant that Sybil was the daughter of Geoffrey Talbot and Agnes. But K-R in DP, pp. 264-5 says she was the daughter of Hugh de Lacy and Adeline, possibly daughter of Geoffrey Talbot. Each account makes some sense but I'll give it a while to settle before any change. (TFPL, Feb 2003)
May 2003: I found further confirmation from K-R: for Sybil's son-in-law, she states firmly that Sibil was "Sibil de Lacy, granddaughter and heiress of Geoffrey I Talbot of Swanscombe, Kent". The CP article (IX, pp. 424-6) was in any case uncertain of the precise details. So I've made the change to her parents.
May 2003: I can't make sense of this sentence on Geoffrey Talbot in K-R' Domesday people, p. 231:
"Geoffrey and Agnes had a daughter Sybil, who attested her parents grant to Colchester. Since Agnes was not a de Lacy, but Ceciliam a coheiress of Sibil, wife of Payn fitz John, who was a grand-daughter of Hugh de Lacy, was sometimes surnamed Talbot, and Geoffrey II Talbot was described as a cognatus of Gilbert de Lacy, there was clearly a link between the Talbots and the Lacys. ..."
