Wife of Noah Carlisle Munsell.
Mother of 10 children.
Married Noah on 12 Mar 1861, in McLean County, Illinois. Phoebe wore a blue silk wedding dress, that she would go on to re-wear to the wedding of her youngest child Thomas Guy Munsell 53 years later.
Is said to have met Jesse James in person. Phoebe was heavily pregnant with her 9th child at the time. According to family lore, Jesse rode up to the Munsell family home and politely knocked on the door. When Phoebe answered it, he asked if she would make him some biscuits, since he had heard that she made some of the best biscuits around. Phoebe made him the biscuits, and was extremely impressed by his manners and polite behavior. He even gave her a gold piece for her trouble. Later on, when she gave birth to her 9th child, a boy, she named him Jesse James Munsell in his honor.
Jesse James Munsell was born in April 1882, a time that Jesse James's time is unaccounted for. Who knows, perhaps he was trolling rural Kansas for biscuits after all!
When it comes to administrating, building and maintaining the site, Find A Grave is largely operated by its founder, Jim Tipton. Jim created the Find A Grave website in 1995 because he could not find an existing site that catered to his hobby of visiting the graves of famous people. He found that there are many thousands of folks around the world who share his interests. What began as an odd hobby became a livelihood and a passion. Building and seeing Find A Grave grow beyond his wildest expectations has been immensely satisfying for Jim. Every day, contributors from around the world enter new records, thousands use the site as an educational reference tool, long-lost loved ones are located and millions of lives are fondly remembered. In what other line of work would Jim have met one of the last living Munchkins, spoken to a gathering of grave enthusiasts in a Hollywood mausoleum and acquired treasures like his antique coffin screwdriver (it only screws in)?
