The will of James Kenion of Haydock -written 6th April 1632 confirms the maiden name of the wife of Humphrey Atherton as Mary Kenion/Kennion, along with their original marriage records in the Winwick Parish records.

And first and principally I commend my soule into the hands of Almighty God my only maker and redeemer in whom is all my hope of salavation and my bodie to the Christian burial at my pishe (Parish) of Winwick there to rest until it shall please Almighty God of his great goodness in whom my trust has placed it to regain with a bodie of immortality. And thereby as regarding the directions of such worldly goods ye God have given me custody of my mind and will is as hereafter followeth.
Imperis. I will and bequeath, and as to the said Peter Kenion my sonne xs, to that I formerly given him.
Item. I give and bequeath unto the children of Peter Lyon my sonne-in-law, Peter Lyon x£, Ellyne Lyon x£, Marie Lyon x£, Humphrey Lyon x£, Margaret Lyon x£.
Item I give and bequeath unto the wyffe of Peter Lyon, one solid bedstead in the higher chamber.
Item. I give and bequeath unto ...... I am Godfather unto xijd. Item. I give and bequeath unto my servant Nicholas Wood xijd.
Item I give and bequeath unto the poore fortie shillings to be dealt by the discretion of my Executors then I will that the rest and residue of my said goodes shall be dealt and divided in two equal parts one pte I give reserve to my self to discharge my burial and all funeral expenses.
And the other pte, I give and bequeath unto the children of Humphrey Atherton and Marie his now wyffe here begotten or to be begotten, betwixte them to be equally divided amongest them. And I do constitute ordayne and make Humphrey Atherton of Winstanley within the County of Lancaster Yeoman, my loving sonne-in-law my true and lawful Executor, hoping that he will execute this my said Will according to the trust in him reposed.
In witness and full confirmation that is my true and last Will I have here unto putt my hand and seale the above said sixth day of April Anno Dom 1632. And therefore, my sonne Peter Kenion to be Ov’rseer that this my Will be performed.
