{geni:about_me} Alias Belia / Belijtje / Belietje / Belitie / Belletje / Beletje / van Gaalen.
Belia got married in 1649 and got her first baby in 1950. So she would be at least 18 years old then (usually girls married at the age of 20 years old in the Netherlands back then), so my guess is she was born in Germany (Gahlen in the region Lippe ?) around 1629. I did not find any baptism of Belia in the archives of Amsterdam and also not in the archives of Rotterdam. The name Belia is a name on itself, but sometimes it is also short for Mabelia. The origin from the van Galen family is from Germany, from a place called Gahlen in the region Lippe. [Recia BT]

In Amsterdam there was a man named Harmen van Galen, who was a Taylor. He came to Amsterdam in 1639 to live and work there wthin the city gates (poorter), one had to pay money to live in another city back then and that was noted down in the Poorter boeken (books of the people within the gates). This man did come from the city Wesel in Germany (very near to the Dutch borders right now). My guess is that he could be a close relative to Belia, because his first name was Harmen (Herman in Dutch) and Belia called her first born baby Herman and after that baby died she called another baby Harmen. So to her it was important that a person Harmen/Herman was renamed/named after, perhaps it was her father, grandfather or uncle ? I have to find his will (if he had one) in Amsterdam to know how they were related to eachother and if they were. [Recia BT]
