Ruthard, Greve i Alamannia

Ruthard the Elder founded the monastery of Gengenbach in 727 His son of the same name restored it in 761. The Bavarian Duke Odelio died who in 748 is buried there.

Maybe it's an older relationship between Odilo and the Ruthard and Warin family. He is mentioned as the son of Hartrade, but this is uncertain so the parents are unknown. . When the Alemannian duchy was defeated by the Carolingians in 745, a new administration was formed, Cannstatt (now part of Stuttgart) became invaded Frankish "national aristocrats". The most important were Count Ruthard and Warin.

In addition to Fulrad of St-Denis, Ruthard meets in 752 in the king's service, with counties north of Lake Constance and in Breisgau and Alsace. About 749 he founded Kloster Arnulfsau in the upper Rhine region; he founded several monasteries in Schwarzach, Gengenbach and Schuttern. Together with Warin he created counties and county-free fiscal districts.
