ROBERT de Beaumont-le-Roger, son of ROGER de Vieilles Seigneur de Beaumont-le-Roger & his wife Adeline de Meulan ([1046]-5 or 6 Jun 1118, bur Prâ©aux, monastery of Saint-Pierre[1660]).¬â Guillaume of Jumiâ®ges records that ·ÄúRogerius de Bellomonte·Äù married ·ÄúAdelinam, Waleranni comitis Mellenti filiam·Äú, by whom he had ·Äúduos filios Robertum et Henricum...postea comites·Äù, and that Robert succeeded ·Äúpost Hugonem avunculum suum comes Mellentis·Äù[1661].¬â Orderic Vitalis names ·Äú...Rodbertus tiro Rogerii de Bellomonte filius...·Äù among those who took part in the battle of Hastings[1662].¬â He was rewarded by William I King of England with the grant of lands, mainly in Warwickshire and Leicestershire.¬â He succeeded his mother's family in 1081 as Comte de Meulan.¬â Orderic Vitalis names ·ÄúRodbertum et Henricum·Äù as the heirs of ·ÄúRogerius...de Bellomonte·Äù, adding that Robert inherited ·Äúcomitatum de Mellento in pago Vilcasino hereditario jure post Hugonem Adelinâ¶ matris suâ¶ fratrem·Äù and possessed ·Äúin Anglia comitatum Legecestriâ¶·Äù which he was granted by King Henry I[1663].¬â ·ÄúRogerius et filii mei Robertus et Henricus·Äù donated ·Äúdecimam tocius Brotonie·Äù to Saint-Wandrille by charter dated 13 Jan 1086[1664].¬â Domesday Book records ·Äúthe count of Meulan·Äù holding numerous properties in Warwickshire[1665].¬â "Rogerus de Bellomonte" founded la Sainte-Trinitâ© de Beaumont-le-Roger, with the consent of "liberis meis Roberto comite Mellentensi et Henrico comite de Warwic", by charter dated [1088/89][1666].¬â Orderic Vitalis records that ·ÄúRodbertus comes Mellenti·Äù demanded ·Äúarcem Ibreii·Äù from Duke Robert who said that he had given ·ÄúBrioniam...castrum·Äù to Robert·Äôs father in exchange for Ivry, that the duke imprisoned Robert and entrusted Brionne to ·ÄúRodberto Balduini filio·Äù, dated to [1090][1667].¬â He succeeded his father in [1090] as Seigneur de Beaumont-le-Roger, de Vieilles et de Pont-Audemer.¬â In [before 1094], he was imprisoned by Robert III Duke of Normandy after challenging the exchange of Ivry for Brionne agreed by his father, the Duke confiscating Brionne.¬â He was released after the intervention of his father, and Brionne was restored to his father after being recaptured[1668].¬â He was granted the town of Leicester by Henry I King of England, and is thereby said to have become Earl of Leicester but there is no record of his having used this title[1669].¬â The Chronicon Rotomagensi records the death in 1118 of "Robertus comes de Mellent"[1670].¬â The necrology of Saint-Pâ®re-en-Vallâ©e records the death "VIII Id Jun" of "Robertus comes Mellentensis"[1671].¬â The necrology of Lyre monastery records the death "5 Jun" of "Robertus comes Mellenti"[1672]. ¬â
[m firstly [as her first husband,] GODECHILDE de Tosny, daughter of RAOUL [III] de Tosny Seigneur de Conches & his wife Isabel de Montfort l'Amaury (-Germanicea, Cilicia Oct 1097[1673]).¬â Orderic Vitalis names ·ÄúGodehildem·Äù as the daughter of ·ÄúRadulfus...de Conchis filius Rogerii de Toenia·Äù and his wife ·Äúfiliam...Simonis [de Montefort]...Isabel·Äù, recording that she married firstly ·ÄúRodberto...Mellentensium comiti·Äù and secondly ·ÄúBalduino filio Boloniensium consulis Eustachii·Äù[1674].¬â The Complete Peerage[1675] says that this first marriage is "highly improbable" as Godechilde was still a young girl when she married Baudouin de Boulogne in 1096, although infant marriages were by no means unknown at the time.¬â Orderic Vitalis makes no mention of any annulment of her alleged first marriage.¬â The first "marriage" may have merely been a contract of betrothal.¬â She married [secondly] ([1090/1096]) as his second wife, Baudouin de Boulogne, who was chosen in 1100 to succeed as Baudouin I King of Jerusalem.]¬â
m [secondly] ([1096], divorced 1115) as her first husband, ISABELLE [Elisabeth] de Vermandois, daughter of HUGUES de France Comte de Vermandois et de Valois [Capet] & his wife Adelais Ctss de Vermandois [Carolingian] ([before 1088][1676]-17 Feb 1131, bur Lewes).¬â Orderic Vitalis records that in 1096 "Hugo Crispeii comes" placed "Radulfo et Henrico filiis suis" in charge of his land, married "Ysabel filiam suam" to "Rodberto de Mellento comiti", and left on pilgrimage taking "secum nobile agmen Francorum"[1677].¬â Guillaume of Jumiâ®ges records that ·Äùsecundus Willelmus de Warenna comes Surreiâ¶...tertius Willelmus filius eius·Äù was born to ·ÄúElizabeth filia Hugonis Magni comitis Viromandorum·Äù, who had first married ·ÄúRoberto comiti Mellenti·Äù by whom she had ·Äútres filios et totidem filias·Äù[1678].¬â She married secondly (1118) William [II] de Warenne Earl of Surrey.¬â The necrology of Saint-Nicaise de Meulan records the death "XIII Kal Mar" of "Isabel comitissa Mellenti"[1679].¬â There appears to be no other "Isabelle Ctss de Melun" to whom this can refer apart from Isabelle de Vermandois.¬â However, it is surprising that she is not referred to by the title of her second husband.¬â
Comte Robert & his [second] wife had [nine] children:
1.¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â [daughter (1102-).¬â Daughter of Robert, Orderic Vitalis records that she was betrothed by her father to Amaury nephew of Guillaume Comte d'Evreux when only one year old but "various circumstances arose which prevented the marriage"[1680].¬â The identity of the daughter is unknown, but she may have been Isabelle (see below).¬â She is named "Aline" in Europâ§ische Stammtafeln[1681], but the source for this is not known.¬â If it is correct, she was probably the same person as the daughter Adeline (see below).¬â Betrothed (1103) to AMAURY [III] de Montfort, son of SIMON [I] Seigneur de Montfort-l'Amaury & his third wife Agnâ®s d'Evreux (-[18/19] Apr [1137/38], bur Abbaye de Haute-Bruyâ®re).¬â He succeeded his brother after [1104] as Seigneur de Montfort-l'Amaury, and after 1118 succeeded his maternal uncle as Comte d'Evreux.]¬â
2.¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â WALERAN de Beaumont (1104-Prâ©aux 9/10 Apr 1166, bur Prâ©aux, monastery of Saint-Pierre).¬â His parentage is recorded by Orderic Vitalis, who specifies that he was the twin of his brother Robert[1682].¬â He succeeded his father as Comte de Meulan, and to his fiefs in Normandy.¬â

4.¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ISABELLE de Beaumont ([1102/07]-after 1172).¬â Guillaume de Jumiâ®ges records one illegitimate daughter of King Henry I as daughter of "Elizabeth sorore Waleranni comitis Mellenti"[1684].¬â Guillaume de Jumiâ®ges records that "Giselbertus filius Gisleberti" married ·Äúsororem Waleranni comitis Mellenti...Elizabeth·Äù by whom he had ·Äúfilium primogenitum...Richardum·Äù[1685].¬â Henry II King of England confirmed the donations to the nuns of Saint-Saens by "Isabel comitissa qui fuit uxor Gilleberti comitis" by charter dated to [1172/1182][1686].¬â Mistress of HENRY I King of England, son of WILLIAM I "the Conqueror" King of England & his wife Mathilde de Flandre (Selby, Yorkshire Sep 1068-Saint-Denis le Ferment, Forââ¢t d·ÄôAngers near Rouen 1/2 Dec 1135, bur Reading Abbey, Berkshire).¬â m GILBERT FitzGilbert de Clare Earl of Pembroke, son of GILBERT FitzRichard Lord of Clare & his wife Adelisa de Clermont ([1100]-6 Jan 1148 or 1149, bur Tintern Abbey).¬â
5.¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â HUGH de Beaumont "Hugo pauper" (-after 1140).¬â His parentage is recorded by Orderic Vitalis[1687].¬â A favourite of King Stephen who gave him the castle and barony of Bedford in 1138, thereby creating him Earl of Bedford.¬â The Gesta Stephani Regis records that "Hugo cognomina Pauper", who was granted "comitatum Bedefordiâ¶" after the expulsion of "Milone de Bellocampo", lost the castle, dated to [1140/41][1688].¬â He left England whereupon his earldom reverted to the crown[1689].¬â He was ejected from Bedford by the sons of Robert Beauchamp.¬â He appears to have lapsed into poverty and was probably degraded from his peerage[1690].¬â m --- de Beauchamp, daughter of SIMON de Beauchamp & his wife ---.¬â Orderic Vitalis records that "Hugoni cognomento Pauperi" married "filiam Simonis de Bello Campo"[1691].¬â Hugh & his wife had one child:¬â

6.¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ADELINE de Beaumont .¬â Guillaume of Jumiâ®ges records that ·Äúquartum Hugonem·Äù married ·ÄúAdelinam filiam Roberti comitis Mellenti·Äù by whom he had ·Äúfilium suum primogenitum Robertum et alios·Äù[1692].¬â Orderic Vitalis names her as one of the three sisters of Waleran Comte de Meulan, whom he married to Hugues de Montfort[1693].¬â "Hugo de Monteforti filius Gisleberti de Gant" donated property with the consent of "·Ä¶Haelina uxore mea et filiis meis Roberto et Valeranno" to Saint-Ymer-en-Auge by charter dated to [1145 or 1147], which also refers to donations by "Hugonis avi mei"[1694].¬â Arnoul Bishop of Lisieux declared the donation of the church of Saint-Ymer to the abbey of Bec by undated charter which names "Hugo de Monteforti et Robertus filius eius et Adelina uxor eius"[1695].¬â m ([1120]) HUGUES [IV] Seigneur de Montfort-sur-Risle, son of GILBERT van Gent & his wife Alix de Montfort-sur-Risle.¬â

7.¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â AUBREY de Beaumont .¬â Orderic Vitalis records Waleran Comte de Meulan having three sisters (whom he does not name), one of whom he married to Hugues de Châ¢teauneuf-en-Thimerais son of Gervase[1696].¬â "Hugo Castrinovi dominus" confirmed donations to the monastery of Saint-Vincent, with the consent of "uxore mea Alberedi et matre mea senior iam detenta Mabilia et filiis meis Hugone, Gervasio et Galeranno", by charter dated 1132[1697].¬â m ([1120]) HUGUES [II] Seigneur de Châ¢teauneuf-en-Thimerais, son of GERVASE de Châ¢teauneuf-en-Thimerais & his wife Mabel de Montgommery.¬â He rebelled against Henry I King of England in Sep 1123, with his brothers-in-law Walâ©ran de Meulan, Hugues de Montfort and Guillaume Louvel[1698].¬â
