brief biography
Robert of Strathearn, who ruled Strathearn 1223·Äì1245, is the fourth known Mormaer of Strathearn, but of course this is simply a source problem and certainly does not mean that he actually was the fourth.
Robert was the fourth son of Mormaer Gille Brigte. Not much is known of his reign, but we do know that in 1237 he travelled to York as part of the Scottish delegation who negotiated the Treaty of York. It seems he largely confined himself to his comital demesne, which would explain his conspicuous absence from the records, despite a relatively long reign. ¬â€

Robertus filius Gilberti comitis de Stratheryn" confirmed possessions of Inchaffray Abbey by charter dated to [1221/23][715]. ¬â€ He succeeded his father as Earl of Strathearn.¬â€  "Robertus comes de Stratheren" confirmed possessions of Inchaffray Abbey by charter dated to [1223/24], witnessed by "·Ä¶Fergus, Malisio, Gilleberto fratribus meis·Ä¶Donecano et Gillethoma filiis Malisii"[716]. ¬â€ The date of his death is set by the charter, dated to after 1244, under which [his brother] "Fergus filius G. quondam comitis de Stratherne" donated "terram·Ä¶Cotken in Kather Mothel" to Lindores Abbey by undated charter, dated to after 1244, witnessed by [Robert%E2%80%99s son] "domino M. comite de Strathern·Ä¶"[717].¬â€  m --- (-after 1247).¬â€ 
The name of Robert·Äôs wife is not known.¬â€  A charter of her son "M. comes de Stratherin" dated 1247 refer to the rights "in vita comitisse matris nostre" and provides for after her death[718]. ¬â€
