Robert de Beauchamp was the first of this Somersetshire family of whom mention is made by the genealogist Dugdale.
He was born before 1136.
He accounted the King £6 for a mark of gold in 1156/57.
He was Sheriff of Somerset and Dorset in 1162/63. He was certified, upon the assessment of the aid for marrying the king's daughter, then levied, his knight's fees in 1165/66. He was paid his knight's fees, to amount in number to seventeen, for which he paid £7 1s. 8d. In 1167/68.
He again enjoyed the sheriffalty for the same counties and continued in office for five years, and one half of the sixth following, in 1175/76.
