(5) 1657, Mar: The Ipswich County Court referred the estate of Joseph BACHELLOR to the Salem Court to take further order thereon. His son Mark BATCHELLER was to settled the estate of his father and mother and was appointed administrator, and was to pay his brother John 15 pounds when he attains age 21 years.
(5) Resided in Wenham, MA.
(5) 1692: (3,5) John BATCHELLER was one of the jury that tried the witchcraft cases in Salem, MA. (NOTE: From Jun to 22 Sep 1692, 20 persons, 14 of them women, were executed for witchcraft in Salem, MA. They were tried before a special court set up in May and dissolved in October.)
(1) 1696, 28 May: A warrant for the distribution of the estate of Henry BACHELDER, late of Ipswich, deceased, names heirs John, Elizabeth and Hannah BACHELDER, children of Joseph, his brother, deceased; John, Joseph and Hannah BACHELDER, children of John, his brother, deceased; to each of whom is ordered to be paid 11 pounds 13.
1697: (5) With other members of the jury, he signed a statement asking forgiveness for the error of their judgement during the Salem witchcraft trials. (3) John BACHELLOR of Salem was a juryman at the Salem witch trials who would write with regret of his part in the deliberations. (NOTE: In the wake of the Salem witchcraft trials of 1692, in 1697 the jurors signed a statement of regret and compensatory indemnities were offered to the families of those unjustly executed.)
(5a) 1698, 16 Dec: John BATCHELDER Senr. of Wenham, Essex Co., MA, yeoman, wrote his will. Called himself weak in body. Wills that Sarah my beloved wife shall be taken care of by my executor and that she be decently and honorably kept and maintained by him out of my estate left in the hands of my executor so long as she lives and remains my widow; also she to have the use of the Little Room or westwardly end of my now dwelling house to live in if she shall see cause to accept of it free to herself, and she to have a good bed and bed clothes to it with curtains and vallance to it and a bedstead & an Iron Pot that will hold about 2 gallons to be free to her to dispose of after her decease.
Joseph BACTHELDER my eldest son shall have all that land which he is now in possession of being about 55 acres & on part of the land his dwelling house stands in full of his share or portion in my estate and any right or interest he might have to the estate left by my brother Marke BATCHELDER dec'd. Gives to son John BATCHELDER the dwelling house in which he now lives and all the land both upland and meadow belonging to me which he is now in possession of, he paying out of the same 10 pounds money to my executor within 2 years after my decease. Gives to daughter Elizabeth the wife of Thomas MILLETT 30 s. money, which with what I have already bestowed upon her I do account it her full share or part of my estate. Gives to daughters Hannah, Mary and Sarah to each of them 27 pounds apiece, besides what I have already given them which is a cow; I also now give my daughter Hannah a yearling calf and a pair of Weaver's Looms. Gives to son David BATCHILDOR when he shall come to age of 21 years, 18 acres of upland and meadow ground to be laid out and delivered to him and a legal conveyance given him by my executor, to be laid out of that parcel of land which my brother Mark BATCHELDER formerly lived on and died possessed of if there be so much remaining in said parcel of land & to leave an acre of land to the dwelling house which my son Ebenezer has built and set up on said land; also David and his heirs to have liberty to aconvenient way to pass to and from said land. Gives to son Ebenezer BATCHELDER all the remainder of my estate either in housing or land, goods, or chattels and all debt belonging to me from any person, and names him sole executor. Desires loving friend Lt. William FISK and Mr. John NEWMAN to be overseers. Signed and sealed John BATCHELDER. Wits. William FISK, John NEWMAN, and Bethia H. (her mark) HERRICK.

(5a) 1698/9, 20 Mar: An inventory of the estate of John BATCHELDER late of Wenham was taken by William FISK and John NEWMAN and totaled 519 pounds 5s. less 40 pounds in debts due. It included the dwelling house and barn and homestead, being about 40 acres of upland and meadow, 180 pounds; a parcel of land wch Joseph BATCHELER containing about 55 acres of upland & meadow and given him by his father's will, 110 pounds; about 35 acres of upland and meadow on which John BATCHELER dwells, 70 pounds; a parcel of land containing about 9 acres with a small orchard on it and being the land which was formerly Mark BATCHELER's dec;d, 40 pounds; 6 1/4 acres of salt marsh lying in Ipswich bought of Jacob PIRKINS, 31 pounds5s; cattle, horses, sheep; clothing; a bed, bedding, curtains, vallances, coverlids and sheets; pewter, brass and iron kettle; various farming utensils; a debt owed the estate from John BATCHELER Junr. 10 pounds.
(5b) Sarah BATCHELDER relict, John BATCHELDER of Wneham & John BATCHELDER Jr. of Wenham deed to David BARCHELDER land in which John Jr. & wife Ann give up right of dower. (NOTE: No date given.)
