William Hamilton, Jr. and his wife, Ruth Wilson, daughter of Captain Samuel Wilson ( killed in battle of Point Pleasant ) and Mary Babb, moved ca 1788 to Woodford County, Kentucky and later to Boone Co., Ky. In addition to the deed in Greenbrier Co. of the land which he states was received through the will of his brother, Andrew Hamilton, William also stated in his application for Rev. War Pension that he served in Greenbrier Co. under his brother, Colonel Andrew Hamilton. In spring of 1781 William went to Kentucky on a visit and enlisted at Harrodsburg, Kentucky under Captain James Herrod and under General George Rogers Clark. ( File #W-9059, National Archives, Washington, DC ). In 1848, Gallatin Co., KY, Ruth, his widow, filed for his pension and listed their children and their birth dates. William's will, made November 14, 1830, probated June 1834, Boone Co., KY, left lands to his widow and 22 slaves to his children.
William Hamilton was in Capt. John Dickenson's Rangers 1756-9 (Morton Bath Co pg. 86). Both Andrew and William Hamilton served in Capt. John Dickenson's Company of Augusta County Militia during the French and Indian War.
