Notes par Rebecca "Annie" Eichelberger

Hi Glenn !! Trying to quickly reply, I am looking at my transcription from the Bedford Gazzette - vol. 97 from Friday Oct. 3, 1902. I believe I had to hand write the text from a volume at one of the Bedford County historical society or public buildings around 1991-2 because they had no copier, nothing. Anyway, as Terri mentioned, Annie died on a train about 25 miles east of Chicago (Pullman, IL) while returning from Pasadena, apparently there for her health, but she didn't make it back. The date of death is Sept. 27, 1902. I also had to do the same for the Bedford Inquirer obit from Oct. 3, 1902 which states she was daughter of the late Michael Eichelberger, member of the M.E. church and was interred at the Methodist Cem. in Hopewell. NEITHER obit mentions her age at time of death. However, near these notes in this notebook of mine, I copied (must have been copier at another stop) selected pages from a published volume, Historical Sketches of Morrisons Cove, 1933 and also a published Genealogy of Detwiler/Eichelberger families (Annie married into Eichelbergers, who were related to family of John Detwiler, one of founding settlers of Bedford County b. 1779) which states, on their tree, that Rebecca Ann was born c. 1839. Of course I plod thru these volumes to find James, when I do it merely states he was her husband, employed at Hopewell Furnace, no indications this couple ever had children and no other information about the Mannings could be found.

So, assuming you primarily wanted Annie's maiden name/family/dob, I don't know if this helps, especially due to another notation elsewhere in my notes indicating her dob was in 1846. I would have to dig further for where that came from, seems more likely. HOWEVER, in this published Michael Eichelberger, 1774-1830 of Eichelbergertown, Bedford Co. PA by J.A. Eichelberger II, 1987, it states that Michael Eichelberger (1815-18640 met and married Catharine Tobias (1817-1903) and they had 7 children as follows;

Edmund (1834-1852)
Eliza Jane (born c. 1836) (married Dr. Moses Detwiler)
Rebecca Ann born c. 1839
Robert Lee b. 1843
Winfield Scott b. 1847
Charles 1851-1856
Levi born c. 1853

It notes that the 1870 census papers show Catharine in Broad Top Twp. living with Eliza, Annie, W.S., and Levi.

I probably have that somewhere else in this pile of papyrus. Maybe you have it and is one you are studying.
It's also timely for me to relate several, other notes. I tried repeatedly here in approx. 1991-5 in Bedford to find James B.'s death cert. I went to the Pioneer H.S., courthouses, libraries, etc. and most I can see is I have a note that the ert should be at the State Archives in Carlisle, or maybe was on my list to check. I MAY have James B.'s will, maybe you and/or Terri have it, because it sounds familiar and I have in my notes from Pittsburgh, Allegheny Countty Courthouse (dank basement with huge ledgers) that he appeared in index, executor George B. Manning. I would have to check for this tomorrow, I have been in places in Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg, Hollidaysburg, Pittsburgh, Bedford, an & on & on and I know I copied lots of legal property transfers, wills, etc.

Unfortunately, I learned in a trip to Pittsburgh All. Co. Courthouse in 1992 that a birth or death certificate is a 20th Century document...Those existed in their archives no earlier than 1897 or so and I was able to access those from 1897 thru about 1907 in their access area. That is where I copied Hannah's death cert, Duane's father's birth cert. ,etc. Anyway, we know James B. and Annie are in Sunnyside, Hopwell Cem. , I made attempts at the Everett Press and Bedford Gazette for his obit,...Congrats to Terri because I can't believe I missed a newspaper, whichever had her obit emailed earlier..and I did it by pounding the pavement...computers are great, please help me get better at them.

Sorry for the long version, but I do believe I have a few more documents re James B. from courthouses, I will check tomorrow. I need to pace myself in rejoining the research .... my head is spinning like Linda Blair... nite nite Mark
