Alfred and his wife Edith farmed for many years one mile south of New Holland on a rented farm in section 12 of Clark Township.
There is in 2011 still only a barn standing, owned by M. Muilenburg. Because Alfred was the only son without an own farm, he was given in 1958 the first chance to buy his father Fred's farm in the section east of it, number 7 in Iowa Township, 1 mile east and 1 1/2 mile south of New Holland. This was the former "Kok farm".
P. Hakze has photos of the farm, taken in June 2011. Alfred raised corn, alfalfa, oats, as food for the chickens, pigs and cattle, and also milked some cows. The eggs were sold to the grocery store, and they bought groceries with that they paid them.
They retired from farming in 1985 and moved to Corsica.
