Georg Christian Spängler (also spelled Spangler and Spengler) was born in Germany circa 1728.

He emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1749, arriving in Philadelphia on the Jacob, where he took the prescribed oath on 2 October 1749. Aboard the ship were passengers from the German region of Swabia and from the former German states of the Duchy of Württemberg, the Margraviate of Baden and the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt. The precise origin of Georg Christian Spängler within Germany remains unknown at present.

He was referred to by his middle name, "Christian". In Pennsylvania, his name was typically recorded as Christian Spengler.

Christian Spengler was a member of the Williams Township Congregation (Saint Luke's Lutheran Church) in present-day Northampton County, Pennsylvania by December 1749. He was accompanied by his mother, Susanna ______, who was in Williams Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania with him by 18 August 1754.

He married Anna Maria Ensli in Northampton County, Pennsylvania in 1754.

Christian Spengler was a farmer in Moore Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania from 1764 onward. On 5 November 1765, he applied for a patent for his farmstead, called Spänglershausen (“Spangler’s house”), comprising 21 acres located near Monocacy Creek south of present-day Moorestown. Over the following years, in a stepwise fashion, he obtained an additional 235 acres of farmland adjoining his original property. The farmlands extended along both banks of Monocacy Creek.

While in Moore Township, the Spangler family primarily attended Salem Lutheran Church, but on 21 July 1781, Christian Spengler the elder was appointed trustee of the newly organized affiliate church in Bushkill Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania (presently Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Bushkill Center).

He removed to Miles Township, Northumberland County (present-day Centre County), Pennsylvania in 1797, where he joined his son Christopher Spangler.

Christian Spängler (as he signed his name) wrote his will on 27 June 1800, and he died before 18 January 1802, when the inventory of his estate was taken.
