VAN SYCKLE, ...After graduating from the Bay City High School, Mr. Van Sycle spent six years preparing for his profession at the six years preparing for his profession at the University of Michigan, graduating from the Literary Department in 1891, and subsequently taking a post-graduate course in that department, and also graduating from the Law Department, receiving the degrees of B.S., M.S., and LL.B. Mr. Van Sycle has been much interested in educational matters, having served as a teacher and principal in the Detroit public schools, and is at present Professor of American History and Constitutional Law at St. Cyrillus and Methodius' College, Detroit. Since 1895 he has been engaged in the practice of law. As a matter of local history, it may be noted that he tried and won the first case tried in the present Sayne County Court House. In Oct 1902, he was offered the appointment as Department Assistant under the Philippine government, but declined the same. Mr. Van Syckle is prominent in local political matters, having served as delegate to various county and state conventions, and is at present chairman of the Republican committee of his ward. He is a member of the Fellowcraft Club, Sons of the Revolution, University of Michigan Alumni Association, and Michigan Bar Association. He is at present unmarried."
