Hi Joan, I am a volunteer Gene digger at The Family History Center in Mystic, CT. I started doing Mabel CORBIN; mother, Sarah Ann about 8 years ago; am still digging in the roots as my friend, Gr.granddaughter of Mabel CORBIN of Ledyard, CT had me start searching for new clues as to Mabel's Mohegan Indian ancestry. I did find her kin, William Farnham in Preston, CT which stated he was a Mohegan Indian. But, since the Mohegans built their casino they have managed to wipe away most local ancestors from records. I do not state this lightly since I once had access to a lot of tribal names. Not any more. The problem is denial of tribe members very existant, such as in this case. Mabel CORBIN had a white father, Jeremiah ; a half Indian mother, Sarah Ann Farnam. Daughter Mabel married William Hazler of Preston who she met through her cousin William Farnham, in Preston. She quickly married the white William Hazler, had 3 children, lost a 4th infant, had post-par tum depression as Wm. had deserted her in his Ledyard, CT home. She then drank carbolic acid, went into sleep mode on her sofa & died in front of her 3 remaining kids. I disclose this since I rec'd the coroner's report & the medical examiner's report upon request. In conclusion, all my patron wants is that her GR. grandmother be given her Mohegan heritage recognition. I have searched for any clue until I fall into blindness & migraines. Would appreciate any assistance.
