Former Hartford Resident Meets Death at Kalamazoo
Almon B. Emerson, aged 56 years, a former resident of Hartford met instant death at the Kalamazoo Tank & Silo company plant on Wednesday afternoon, March 11, when he fell from a lumber pile, a distance of eighteen feet, and struck a cement tramway. The remains were brought to Hartford Friday afternoon and interment took place at the old cemetery. Mr. Emerson was well known here, having lived in Hartford and vicinity during his early life.
OBITUARY
ALMON BENTON EMERSON.
Almon Benton Emerson, only son of William and Mary Benton, was born at Clearspring, Ind., June 15, 1858, and died in Kalamazoo, Mich., March 11, 1914, aged 56 years, 8 months and 7 days. At the age of eighteen months he was adopted by Elial T. and Huldah M. Emerson, of Wolcottville, Ind. In April, 1870, he moved with them to Keeler township, Michigan, where he grew to manhood. He was married November 25, 1885, to Miss Clara Smith of Hartford.
He leaves besides the wife, three sons, Philip B., Leslie and Irvin, and three daughters, Ethel and Mabrie of Kalamazoo, and Mrs. Mabel Putnam of Benton Harbor, who will mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. Also one foster sister, Mrs. Maryette E. Culver, of Hartford, and many friends and acquaintances with whom he was held in high esteem.
Funeral services were conducted at Goodale's Chapel, Kalamazoo, Friday afternoon at 1:30, with interment in the old cemetery in Hartford.
