Where does the specific birthday come from?
The Profiler who entered this date of 7 April 1683 - needs to supply the document or source.
He probably was born in the 1680's but in New Kent / Hanover where his parents were living.
He died after the above date as he wrote a codicil on 5 Nov 1764 & it was probated on 7 Feb 1765
He didn't marry in 1721 or 1724. He and 2nd wife Sarah married before 1708 when their son John was born
He had 2 sons, John, Cornelius, William - named in his will.
Curious Will of Charles Hudson -Charles HUDSON of St. Paul's Parish in Hanover County being weak in body but of sound and perfect memory this 19 day of April 174_ - Proved 6 day of June 1748. This last will & testament of Charles HUDSON Gent. dec'd being offered to proof by all ex named etc. and recorded.
Item: I give toCornelius DABNEY300 acres of land situated and lying on Stag Creek in Hanover County being the plantation whereonhis son William DABNEY now livesbeing part of 850 acres by Patten the said land being measured and layed off some years past which said land I give to Cornelius DABNEY and his heirs forever.

Cornelius Jr. was born on 07 Apr 1683 in Gloucester County, Virginia and was the fifth of the nine known children of the immigrant, Cornelius Dabney, Sr. (1631-1694).
His father's first wife Edith, most likely died from complications following the birth of her last daughter, Dorothy in February 1680. And Cornelius Jr. would have been the first child by his father's second wife, Susannah (1643-1724).[1]
Cornelius Dabney, Jr. may have had a first wife, whose name is unknown. A rather garbled story suggests that while his first wife was alive, they had a nurse or housekeeper named Sarah Ann Jennings (1702-1790); and that after the death of his first wife, Cornelius married her secondly in April 1721 at Anna River, St.Paul's Parish, Hanover County, Virginia.
He appeared several times in the vestry book of St. Paul's Parish, Hanover County, Virginia.[2]
He was the father of at least 9 children. Six children were named in his last Will ...

- 3 married daughters, Elizabeth Maupin & Frances Maupin & Anne Thompson;
- 3 unnamed married daughters, with only their husbands mentioned in the codicil (Brown, Harris, Johnson).
Cornelius Dabney, Jr. died about 1765[4]and his last Will was recorded in the probate court of Hanover County, Virginia on 07 Feb 1765.

In the name of God Amen, I, Cornelius Dabney of St. Paul's Parish, in the county of Hanover, being weak in body, but sound and disposing mind, as usual, thanks be to Almighty God for the same considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and to prevent dispute about such worldly estate as I shall leave at my death, do think it proper to make and ordain this my last Will and testament in manner and form following ...
Imprimus: Recommend my soul into the hands of my great creator from whom I received it and my body to be buried in humble hopes of a resurrection into eternal life through the merits and mediations of our blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and as to what worldly goods and estate I am _____ of after my debts are paid, I give and bequeath the same as follows.
Item: To my wife Sarah, my featherbed and furniture, two trunks, the black walnut chest, one looking glass, one horse and saddle, two cows and calves, house safe at her disposal; to wife for life, 2 negroes, Jane & Bob, and my river dwelling plantation; after the death of my wife, my son John Dabney may have the land, and Bob, if pays 45 pounds to my daughters, Elizabeth Maupin, Frances Maupin and Anne Thompson, for said Bob and 45 pounds for my land.
Item: I give to my son William Dabney, one hundred and fifty acres of land with the plantation whereon he now lives and four negroes to wit - Judy, Venus, Christopher and Moses, and all my wearing apparel to him and his heirs forever.
Item: I give to my son John Dabney, one negro man named Will, my saddle and my guns to him and his heirs forever.
Item: My will and my desire is that the hundred and fifty acres of land and one negro wench Amany that I intended for my son Cornelius Dabney, deceased, may be sold and the money arising from such sale may be equally divided among all my deceased son's children.

At a court of monthly session held for Hanover County at the Courthouse on Tuesday the 22nd of December1868. On motion of William Winston Dabney who this day produced in Court a copy of the last Will and testament of Cornelius Dabney, deceased. And it appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that the same is a true copy duly attested by a former Clerk of the Court doth order the same to be recorded.

Cornelius DABNEY, Jr. was born about 1690 and he was the son of Cornelius DABNEY, Sr., the Emigrant and his second wife, Susannah (unknown).
This profile's mother, Mrs. Susannah (Dabney) Anderson, made her last Will in 1722 in St Paul's Parish, Hanover County, Virginia and it was probated in 1724. She named her three DABNEY children: Dorothy, Mary and Cornelius; and her one ANDERSON son, David, from her second marriage.
Cornelius DABNEY, Sr., the Immigrant (and father of THIS profile for Cornelius Jr.), had EIGHT definite children by two wives: By his first wife, he had James, George and Sarah, known as Devisees on his land in 1699 King and Queen County, Virginia. (By 1701, this same land was in King William County). John and Elizabeth were both identified by their 1688 deaths in the St.Peter's Parish Records of New Kent County, Virginia. Dorothy DABNEY is also identified in the 1699 devisees. However, in the 1722 St.Paul's Parish, Hanover County, Virginia Will which was probated in 1724, Dorothy DABNEY (m1) William ANDERSON and (m2) James TRICE was specifically named by Susannah (unknown) (Dabney) Anderson as one of her THREE beloved DABNEY children, the other two being Mary, born 1688 and Cornelius II who was the Cornelius (b: c1683) who m: 1721 Sarah Jennings.
Research Notes
He is the acknowledged son of his father's 2nd wife. So he could not have been born around 1675 when his father's 1st wife was still alive (d: 1680). He also could not have been born in April 1688 because his sister, Mary Dabney (m: Maj. Thomas Carr), was born 22 Jan 1688, which is confirmed by the Carr Family Bible, a contemporary document. In the old hand-written documents, it is easy to read an "8" for a "3", so 1683 is the best alternative for Cornelius' birth. See note#23 onCornelius Dabney. PerChet Snow22 Nov 2020.
