Biography
From spouse's FG bio:
George Coons and Rachel lived in Fredrick Co. and Shenandoah Co., Va. until 1811 when they moved to Highland Co., Ohio. They bought land in the John Hughes survey, Liberty Twp from McDowell Reid on Nov. 11, 1812. Rachel released her dower in 1836 so land could be sold and sons, Michael and William R could go to Indiana. The Fall Creek Cemetery is now on the George Coons land. Some Jay Co., Indiana histories give Rachael's name as Ryan, however, the old Bible of Abigail Coons Taylor list the Marriage of George Coons, Sr and Rachel Kane, married July 22, 1782. Mrs Good researcher, said the book "A History of Shenandoah County". lists George Countz and Rachel Keane being married July 22, 1782 by James Ireland, a Baptist preacher. One old history states that George was a soldier in the Revolution and fought at the battle of Bunker Hill. If this is so, he would have been only 13 years old at the time.
Coons, George, of County of "Shanandoah," State of Virginia. Brothers and sisters living in the State of Ohio, Highland County, Liberty Township: Michael, Isaac, Abigail, Nancy. Will states youngest of his brothers and sisters are Michael, Isaac, Abigail, Nancy. (When Nancy "shall arrive at lawful age"). Executors: "My brother William R. Coons to my property in Ohio, David Kaupmann and Ambrose C. Booton to my property in Virginia." Witnesses: Elizabeth Windle, John B. Kaupman, Elizabeth Funk. Proven in Shenandoah Co.
