Percival Butler is a DAR Patriot Ancestor,A017698.
"Percival Butler was commissioned 1st Lieutenant in the 3d Pennsylvania, Col. Thomas Craig's regiment, September 1, 1777, when he was only eighteen years old. He wintered at Valley Forge, served in the battle of Monmouth, and was at the capture of Cornwallis. He went south with Wayne, and remained there until the close of the war. He emigrated to Kentucky in 1784, and married Miss Hawkins, of Lexington, sister-in-law of Col. Todd, who was killed in the battle of Blue Licks. He was the only survivor of the old stock when the war of 1812 began. He was made Adjutant-General of Kentucky, and in that capacity joined one of the detachments of troops sent off from that State.
Percival Butler had four sons: first, Thomas, who was a captain and aid to Gen. Jackson at New Orleans; next, Gen. William O. Butler, who distinguished himself greatly in the War of 1812, and was candidate for Vice-President in 1848; third, Richard, Assistant Adjutant-General of Kentucky during the war of 1812; and fourth, Percival Butler, a distinguished lawyer, who was not of age to bear arms in the War of 1812.
