The Gibbons/Gibbins,Family Tree

Our Gibbons family is English in origin. The origin of the name appears to be derived from the phrase , ( SON OF GIBB ) , ( GIBBS SON ) or ( Son of Gibbon ) . Several Plantations of English settlers in Ireland from 1600 and after, named Gibbon or Gibbons descend from Two families named Fitzgibbon. The Fitzgibbon families origin is ”‘ Anglo-Norman‘‘. And are not of Irish origin, some Irish families adopted the surname O‘Gibbons . which means grandfather-Gibbons. The Gibbons DNA , Project starts with John Gibbons born about 1620 in Hamsterly , Durham, England , who arrived in the colony of Virginia in 1641, He married Mary ? , about 1644 in Accomoc , Virginia. He sometime later returned to England and died there on 16th January 1654. In Hamsterly , Durham county, England. They had at least one son Thomas Gibbons SR. born about 1646 His son Thomas Gibbons SR. born about 1646 probably in Virginia and died in York county , Virginia about 1695 , married Mary Helen Seratt about 1665 in Virginia. According to his will they Had at least four children, (1) Thomas Gibbons JR. 1666-1706 this is our ancestor , (2)a daughter the mother of Mary Owen , that was deceased at the time of his will. (3) Mary Gibbons 1668- (4) John Gibbons 1673-1706. In 1718 in Prince George county , Virginia he Married Mrs. Ann Phillips widow of Nathaniel Phillips , her maiden name was Anne Moss , the daughter of Edward Moss 1637-1731 and his wife Eleanor Westwood 1639-1675. Thomas Gibbons JR. Grew up in a time when there was constant danger of Indian attacks. when he was about 20 years old he joined and participated in what was called Bacons Rebellion , led by a man named Nathaniel Bacon, against the rule of the Kings appointed Governor of Virginia , William Berkeley , the governor refused to protect the western frontier settlers from Indians attacks. About one thousand Virginians of all classes and races rose up in arms against the King,s appointed Governor and began attacking Native American villages , they also chased the governor from Jamestown , which was the capital of Virginia and then burnt down the town of Jamestown, this was the first rebellion of colonist against British rule. In the record book on page 128 of Surry county ,Virginia regarding Bacons Rebellion . On July 3rd 1667 Thomas Gibbons SR. confessed to Killing several of Arthur Allen,s cattle for food , at the command of a Captain Long. Thomas Gibbons SR. was later included in a list of Pardoned rebels, by the King of England. In 1683 Thomas received a land grant in Surry county , Virginia for 400 acres, This Grant made him neighbors to the Eppes Family, The Eppes Family have lived on that property longer than any other privately owned property in America. It is now supervised by the National Parks Service. Thomas Gibbons JR. 1666-1706, Married Sarah Creech about 1700 in Virginia. The daughter of Thomas Creech . ( In the public family trees on Ancestry.com they have her maiden surname as Cairox I can not find any such surname anywhere with that spelling , I did a DNA search and think Creech is probably the correct surname ? ) they had at least three known children. (1) Elizabeth Gibbons (not the Elizabeth that married John Ballard ) (2) John B. Gibbons 1701-1780 this is our Gibbons ancestor (3) Thomas Gibbons 3rd 1704-1770. Not much is known about the life of Thomas Gibbons JR. Except that he was the Sherriff of York county , Virginia in the 1690,s also in the record books of York county , Virginia on Feb. 29 1702. ( a Leap year ? ) Thomas Gibbons , John gibbons , ( his brother ) and Simon Stacey, were bonded by the justice of York county, for the sum of and hundred thousand pounds of sweet tobacco, as security for Thomas Gibbons , as the administrator of Thomas (Cairox ) Creech , Estate. Also we can find no will of Thomas gibbons JR. 1666-1706 . But in the York county , Virginia record books , in the letters of administration , Edward Moss and John Moss his brother presented their bond for administration of the Estate of Thomas Gibbons , deceased. Sarah ( Creesh ) Gibbons , his wife must have died also about 1716 because in Feb.1717 the court of York county, Virginia appointed John Gibbons , Thomas Gibbons brother as Guardian of Thomas Gibbons , minor orphaned children. ( note ) Edward and John Moss were the brother in-laws of John Gibbons ,
John B. Gibbons, Born about 1701 in Charles Parish, York county, Virginia. He died before 1773 in Surry county , Virginia He married Rebecca Easton 1710-1786 about 1730. (note) there is some confusion as to where they were married Virginia or Rhode Island I have found no proof either way . She was born about 1710 probably in Massachusetts , The daughter of Joshua Easton 1683-1767 and his wife Lydia Livermore 1687-1760. John B. Gibbons did have a will , his executors made their final accounting to the court in Surry county , Virginia in 1773 . They had nine children. Seven lived to adulthood ,
