1.JOHN PORTER, born 15 November 1561, Little Baddow, co. Essex; died 26 November 1625 Felsted, co. Essex. He married in Little Baddow, co. Essex, on 12 September 1587, SIBLE VESSEY,[] born ca. 1530, co. Essex, England. She was still living 1561; died Little Baddow, co. Essex; she was a daughter of Thomas Vessey of Little Baddow,[] son of George Vessey (born 1504) and Tryphena Partridge. CHECK.
John Porter was a —cousin“ of Thomas Brett of Terling, co. Essex, uncle of Governor William Pynchon.[] The will of John Porter —of Felsted, co. Essex, yeoman,“ dated 30 May 1623, proved in the Commissary Court of London, Essex, and Herts, on 26 November 1625, named his heirs: his wife Sybil (who was to be executrix) and children, Francis, Thomas, John, William, and Rose Porter.[]

2.JOHN PORTER, baptized at Holy Cross Church, Felsted, co. Essex, England, 21 June 1594;[] died in Windsor, Connecticut, 21 April 1648.[] He married at All Saints‘ Church, Messing, co. Essex, on 18 October 1620, ANNA WHITE,[] baptized there 13 July 1600, died in Windsor in 1647, daughter of Robert and Bridget (Allgar) White. Porter emigrated from England in 1638 with his wife and eight children, probably on the Susan and Ellen.[] They came first to Dorchester; according to his death record, he settled in Windsor in 1639. He was constable in 1639-40, a deputy to the General Court in 1646 and 1647.[] His will was dated 20 April 1648, proved 7 June 1649.[] John and Anna were ancestors of Ulysses S. Grant, Lee DeForest, Grover Cleveland, and Wilbur and Orville Wright.

i.Anna [i] Porter, bapt. 22 Sept. 1621; d. in Windsor in 1653;[] m. there on 24 Feb. 1644, William Gaylord, Jr.,[] b. in England in 1616, d. at Windsor 14 Dec. 1656, son of Dea. William Gaylord.
ii.John Porter, Sr., bapt. 9 February 1622/3; d. in Windsor, 2 Aug. 1688;[] m. there by 1650, Mary Stanley, d. 13 Sept. 1688. He was a soldier in King Philip‘s War.
iii.Sarah Porter, bapt. 15 March 1624/5; d. in Stratford, Conn., 16 Mar. 1696/7, aged 70; m. Windsor, 24 Oct. 1644, Joseph Judson of Stratford and Milford. They were ancestors of Jane Wyman.
iv.James Porter, bapt. 20 Feb. 1627/8; died after his father‘s will of 1648.
v.Rebecca Porter, bapt. 16 Sept. 1630; d. in Windsor in 1650; m. (1) 16 Oct. 1650, perhaps at Windsor or Saybrook, John Clark, d. 21 Sept. 1677; m. (2) after 1677, as his second wife, Ens. Jared/Gerald Spencer.[]
vi.Samuel [i] Porter, bapt. 26 May 1632; bur. at Felsted 25 July 1632.
vii.Rose Porter, bapt. 24 June 1633; d. 12 May 1648, Windsor.[]
viii.Samuel [ii], bapt. 2 June 1635; d. in Hadley, Mass., 6 Sept. 1689. He m. in 1659, Hannah Stanley.
ix.Mary, bapt. 1 October 1637; d. in Windsor after 1679. She m. there 27 May 1658, Samuel Grant of Windsor.[] Ancestors of Ulysses S. Grant.
x.Anna [ii], bapt. 4 Nov. 1638 at All Saints, Messing, co. Essex; d. young.
xi.Nathaniel, bapt. Windsor 19 July 1640;[] d. in Stratford, Conn., in Jan. 1679/80.[] He married (1) in Windsor ca. 1666 Hannah Groves and (2) Elizabeth Baldwin.
xii.Hannah/Anna Porter, bapt. at Windsor, 4 Sept. 1642; m. Dea. John Coleman.

3.HANNAH/ANNA PORTER, baptized at Windsor, Connecticut, 4 September 1642;[] killed by Indians, along with her child, on 19 September 1677, during King Philip‘s War. She married in Hadley, Massachusetts, on 29 May 1663, as his first wife, DEA. JOHN COLEMAN of Deerfield, Massachusetts, born in 1635, died in Hatfield, Massachusetts, 1711.[] She was the mother of Hannah, Noah, and John Coleman.
