Bio: John Cutler, the immigrant from England, came from Sprauston, Norfolk to New England. He was a witness in court in Sprowston on June 22, 1636. It is claimed that he was a Puritan, a persecuted adherent of Rev. Robert Peck. He possibly traveled on the ship "Rose" of Yarmouth, which sailed from England in April, 1637. His wife Mary, a servant and seven children came from England with him. On June 10, 1637 he was given three lots totalling four and one half acres in Hingham, a common amount of land for recent immigrants. That same month he was assigned a home lot of five acres in Hingham, on the south side of Town Street, two planting lots and a "great" lot. John died in February 1638, about a year after he settled in Hingham. His grave site is unknown, but the only cemetery in use at the time of his death was the Hingham Cemetery. His widow was left almost destitute and some of his older children were taken in by a relative, Robert Cutler of Charleston. His widow later married Thomas Hewit of Hingham.
