EDWARD LINCOLN

Edward Lincoln, the son of Richard Lincoln and his first wife, Elizabeth was born in Hingham, Norfolk, England. By his fourth wife Richard Lincoln had another son, Henry and two daughters, Anne and Elizabeth.

Richard Lincoln left all of his property to the children of his fourth wife, completely disinheriting Edward. Edward brought suit but was not successful. Edward then moved to Hingham where there were other Lincoln families. Edward‘s children were born in Hingham, England. William Barton cited three children in —The Lineage of Lincoln“ who all immigrated to America. They were Samuel, our next generation ancestor, Thomas, and Daniel.

Edward Lincoln died in 1640. It is also reported that he died on 11 Feb in either 1638 or 1639. Edward was born about 1575. Edward Lincoln married Bridget Gilman about 1600. Bridget was born about 1582 in Hingham, Norfolk, England and died about 1665 in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

At the death of Queen Elizabeth I in 1603, King James VI of Scotland was renamed James I and crowned King of England, Scotland and Ireland. During his reign he tried unsuccessfully to unite Scotland and England. King James I ruled until his death in 1625. At his death his son Charles I became King. During the reign of King Charles I many internal battles were fought over issues of religion, governance, and relations between Scotland and England. King Charles was eventually beheaded on 30 Jan 1649.

Edward Lincoln would have lived most of his life under the reigns of King James I and King Charles I. As did his ancestors, he lived during very turbulent times.
