V. Deborah Griswold (81), born at Lyme, Conn., about 1696, the fifth daughter of Matthew Griswold and Phebe Hyde (10) of Lyme, was a granddaughter of Samuel Hyde (2) the first, and Jane Lee, of Norwich. She m. 19 'Oct., 1721, Major Robert denison, bap. 21 March, 1697, at Stonington, son of Capt. Robert Denison and Joanna Stanton of the north parish of New London (now Montville), Conn.

[This Capt. Robert Denison of the north parish of New London, b. 17 Sept., 1673, was a son of John Denison, b. 1646, and Phebe Lay, b. 5 Jan., 1650, and a grandson of Capt. George Denison the first of Stonington, and of his second wife, Anne Borrodil. This Capt. George Denison was born in England in 1618; and his second wife, Anne Borrodil at Corsica in 1615. He came to this country with his father and two brothers about 1631; and in 1640
he m. Bridget Thompson, by whom he had two daughters. Upon her death in 1643, he returned to England and engaged in the civil war which was then going on there. And the tradition in the family is, that in an engagement in Ireland he was dangerously wounded; and in that situation was cast upon the hospitality of Mr. John Borrodil of Cork, a gentleman of wealth who had an only daughter, Anne Borrodil, who became a ministering angel to him in his affliction. That he persuaded her to marry him, and to share his fortunes in this new world. He had by her three sons and four daughters: George, John, William, Anne, Margaret, Borradil, and Mary; all of whom except the last (as well as his two daughters by the first wife), married and had families. He was the first representative of Stonington in the general assembly at Hartford. He d. 23 Oct., 1694, while attending the assembly at Hartford, at the age of 76. His widow d. 26 Sept., 1712, aged 97, and was buried in the Denison cemetery at Stonington, half a mile east of the lower bridge at Mystic. John Denison, their eldest son, b. 1646 at Roxbury, m. 1667, Phebe Lay of Saybrook. Their son,Robert Denison, b. 17 Oct., 1673, m. Joanna Stanton, b. 5 Jan., 1679, and had, among other children, Robert, bap. 21 March, 1691, who m.Deborah Griswold; and John, b. 28 Nov., 1698, who m. Patience Griswold (No. 82). In Jan., 1710, Owaneco, the sachem of the Mohegans, conveyed to Capt. Robert Denison, then of Stomngton, a tract of about 500 acres of land upon the borders of Gardner's lake, near the northwest corner of the north parish of New London (now Montville), upon which he settled within two or three years thereafter, and died there.]

Robert Denison the second settled at New London, north parish. He was a captain in General Roger WblScott's brigade at the taking of Louisburgh, and was afterwards promoted to the rank of major and of colonel. he removed to Nova Scotia; and in a deed of the 18 Sept., 1761, of lands, on the New London records, he is described as "Col. Robert Denison of Horton, Nova Scotia."
His children by her were:

He then m. Prudence Sherman, and had by her three children: 1. David Sherman, b. Aug., 1734, who m. Sarah Fox. 2. Mercy, b. Oct., 1736, d. 15 Jan., 1743. And 3. Robert 3d, b. 31 July, 1739, d. 25 Dec, 1743.
