Marjorie Fogwell Hewitt, 95, of Bristol WI, died Jan 4, 2018 in Bristol, with family.
She was born in Chicago, Il. to David O.R. and Mabel E. Fogwell on July 25, 1922.
Marjorie grew up in Kenosha, attending Durkee Elementary and graduating from Mary D Bradford High School in 1940. She attended William & Mary College and the University of Hawaii in Honolulu before enlisting in the US Naval Reserve and becoming a WAVE during World War II. She attained the rank of Aviation Machinist Mate Instrument where she cleaned and calibrated gyroscopes for airplanes. After her discharge in 1945 she attended Beloit College. She there met Calvin Hewitt and they married on Oct 10, 1947 in Bristol. After graduation from Beloit they moved to Bristol in 1950 and lived there since.
Marjorie, also known by family and friends as “Marge” and “Misty” was a generous and kind-hearted person who raised the four Hewitt children in a loving home. She was a life-long learner and encouraged her children to learn and explore the world. She loved nature and she and Cal often took the children on camping, birding and exploration trips. While the children were in school she was active in PTA and 4-H club. Marge’s faith was important to her and she was a member of the congregation of the Bristol United Methodist Church. She was a founding member of the Neighborhood Book Club and continued to participate even with failing eyesight by listening to audio books. She was a 30 plus year member of the Kenosha Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was also a member of the Mayflower Society and the Navy Club. She taught needlecraft for several years at Gateway Technical College. Marge had a compassionate heart and volunteered for the Hospice Alliance for many years where she was a comfort to many families. She enjoyed traveling and seeing new places, meeting with old friends and making new friends. Marge was a great letter writer and carried on correspondence with friends for many years, learning to use a computer to keep up with her many penpals. She was interested in history and genealogy.
Marjorie is survived by her children: David Hewitt (Gloria Randall-Hewitt), of Racine WI; Deborah Polansky (Richard), of Genoa City WI; Linda Hewitt (Andrew), Salem WI; Sarah Bauer (Philip), Twin Lakes WI. She is also survived by grandchildren: Tyler (Alicia) Hewitt, New Berlin WI; Aaron Hewitt, Salem WI: Nate Watters (Lexie), Portland OR; Meg Embrey (Michael), Bentonville, Arkansas; Michael Watters (Allie Demet), Madison WI; Matthew Watters, Madison WI and great grandchildren: Evan Hewitt, Liam Embrey, Quinn Embrey, cousins and many dear friends and acquaintances.
Preceding her in death were her husband Calvin Hewitt (2013) and son Andrew Hewitt (1996).
