Mary was the daughter of Isaiah Bull Sr. (1756-1821) and his 1st wife Katie Stevens Bull (abt 1760-1782).

She had one other known sibling, being Isaiah Bull Jr. (abt 1781 - abt 1838)

Mary Bull & Solomon Griffin were married Abingdon, Washington, VA on 25 Jan 1798 by the Methodist minister Charles Hardy.

In 1807 they along with their first 3 of 11 children moved from Abingdon, Washington, VA to Lincoln County, KY and from there to near Roundstone, Rockcastle, KY in 1810. They settled in Cove Branch later where they lived the remainder of their lives.

She applied for a Widows pension for Solomon's service in the War of 1812 on 11 Nov 1872. This was rejected for term of in sufficient service on 20 Feb 1873. He had served 48 days, and at that time 60 days was being required for a pension. She was 92 at the time.

The Government finally approved her widows pension (approx. 10 yrs after her death), letter from her attorney in reply; "Mary Griffin died about ten years ago, or soon after making application for pension, I do not know what time, J. L. Whitehead P. M., dated 25 May1883."

Family lore passed down, has a story that Mary Bull Griffin inherited some land in New York City. She and Solomon went by stagecoach to New York to claim it. They had many hardships, encountered Indians, etc. and after arriving in New York found that buildings (supposedly where the Peabody Hotel now stands) had been built on this land and it would take some time to settle the estate. Mary and Solomon had left several children back home, so she did not want to wait for settlement so they returned home. Later they found that the land had been leased for 99 years, so they just forgot about it. The attorney for this is said to have been Aaron Burr, who cheated them out of the land. (from Pearl Gravely Gr, Gr ,Gr, grand-daughter)

Mary and Solomon are both buried with no visible or legible gravestone.
