[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 9, Ed. 1, Tree #2432, Date of Import: Oct 20, 2000] PENELOPE (DODSON) CAUTHON: Penelope Cauthon, daughter of Thomas Dodson and wife, was born in Tennessee, November 24, 1852 and departed this life August 1, 1937, being 84 years, 8 months, and 8 days old. Her parents moved to Missouri when she was 1 year old, and she has lived in and near Gerster since. She was married to Mitchell I. Cauthon July 21, 1867. To this union was born 11 children, 8 sons and 3 daughters; James Cauthon of Kansas City, Kansas; William Cauthon of Pryor, Oklahoma; George Cauthon of Hitchita, Oklahoma; John Cauthon of Lowry City, Missouri; Bert Cauthon of St.Joseph, Missouri; Lee Cauthon of Grigston, Kansas; and Nola Fitch of Belton, Missouri. Four of the children have preceded their mother in death. Namely Zona Hutton, Woodie Cauthon, Roxy Sherwood, and Dee Cauthon. She has been a widow for six years, and has made her home with her daughter, Nola Fitch. She did not suffer many days, and all that loving hands could do was done, but the giver and taker of life had bade the tired body rest. The remains were tenderly carried to Kings Prairie Church where Rev. Frank Harden spoke words of confort to the sorrowing ones. Many of the children who survive her were unable to come. The burial was in Kings Prairie Cemetery, August 3, 1937. She was converted early in life and joined the Baptist Church at Gerster, Missouri and lived a true christian life thereafter. She is gone, but not forgotten, to a home where angels dwell. We will meet her up in heaven, where we'll never say farewell. It is lonely now among us and our hearts are often sad, but we long to meet you, Dear Mother, in a home that's bright and glad. The Children.
