Sir Edmund Montfort was an English knight and soldier who fought in the Wars of the Roses and stood faithfully to the House of Lancaster . Under King Henry VI. he began his career in 1444 as Esquire of the Kings Household and retained this position until 1460. He fought in 1461 at the Battle of Towton and then fled with Henry VI. and Margaret of Anjou to Scotland and then followed Queen Margaret into exile to France. From 1460 to 1471 he was Esquire of the Queens Household . In July 1461, after the coronation of Edward IV , he lost his rights in England (English Bill of Attainder) .
According to some sources, Sir Edmund returned to England between 1471 and 1475 and arranged with the ruling House of York and became chamberlain in 1475 with Henry Stafford, 2nd Duke of Buckingham. He returned from France with Jasper Tudor and Henry Tudor, later Henry VII , as he fought for Henry Tudor at the Battle of Bosworth .
After the Battle of Bosworth Sir Edmund was fully rehabilitated and was from 1485 to 1494 chamberlain with Jasper Tudor , the Duke of Bedford and steward of Thornbury . Together with Jasper Tudor Sir Edmund was commissioned several times in 1491/92 with administrative and regulatory tasks in Wales and the counties on the border and took over for Jasper Tudor and the supervision of some properties.
Sir Edmund Montfort died in 1494.
