In his Will of July 1782 John describes himself as Dairyman, and yet by then he was a man of substance. His Will is invaluable in linking together the various members of his family , then alive. The following bequests are particularly useful in this regard: to his son John Gudgin of Maulden 40 pounds to his daughter Sarah Grace of Pulloxhill 40 pounds to his daughter Mary King (wife of Tristram King) of Haynes 40 pounds to his daughter Elizabeth Poulton (wife of William Poulton) of Silsoe 40 pounds to his son Richard Gudgin of Pulloxhill 40 pounds to his brother Robert Gudgin 10 pounds to his wife Mary (nee Neale) all of his other property providing that she does not remarry; if she does remarry the sum of 300pounds is to be divided equally between his two sons and three daughters. His wife Mary was to be the sole executrix The last Will and Testament of John's second wife Mary - dated 5 Oct 1784 is equally invaluable in providing that John did indeed marry twice by listing some of John's children as her Children-in-law (step children) and others as her own children. It is Mary's Will which provides the vital evidence linking her son Richard b 1786 and his wife Sarah (Giddings) to the later generations in our family tree. Without question John Gudgin of Pulloxhill (as he is styled in his Will) died in Feb 1784 and was buried at Pulloxhill. The hand-written parish reg has the simple entry: Gudgin burial 1784 John Gudgion,Dairyman, Bur Feb 15th Johns will was proved on 20 Feb 1784. The Parish Reg of Pulloxhill also shows the following in 1734 Bapt Gudgeon...... Mary daughter of John & Sarah Gudgeon was bapt June 16th Bur Gudgeon......
