Bedford CRO: Will APB/W 1697/23. In ye Name of God Amen I RICHARD GREGORY Senr. of Pegsden in ye Parish of Shitlington in ye County of Bedford Yeoman being very weak in body but perfect in memory (blessed be God) do make an ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner & forme following. Imprimis I comend my precious soull into ye hands of god that gave it trusting through ye Meritorious sufferings of my for ever blessed Redeemer Jesus Christ yt my sins tho’ many will be done away & my soull sav’d in ye great day of final account. It. I give my body to ye Earth from whence it was taken decently to be buried at ye discretion of my Executors whom Ishall nominate, & as for those temporall goods wch. God in mercy has lent me I give & bequeath in maner & forme following. Imprimis I give & bequeath all my stock, goods & chattels [....] possest with to my beloved wife SUSANNAH GREGORY & ye two children of her body begotten, THOMAS & MARY & to my two Elder sons RICHARD & WILLIAM GREGORY equally to be divided among them, my funerall charges & debts whatsoever being first paid. Lastly my will is yt. my beloved wife SUSANNA & my two sons RICHARD & WILLIAM GREGORY be joynt Executors of this my last Will & Testament, revoking all others by me made. In witness whereof I have set my hand & seal this sixteenth day of March in ye. eighth year of ye Reign of our soveraigne Lord King William Annoqs Dom. 1697. Abstract • Testator is Richard Gregory senior, yeoman of Pegsdon in the parish of Shillington • After costs are paid, all stock, goods and chattels equally between wife, her [their] two children Thomas and Mary, and testator’s two elder sons Richard and William • Wife Susanna and sons Richard and William Gregory appointed Executors • Will dated 16th March 1697, witnessed by William Collins, William Gregory and Edward Jennings • Will proved 24th April 1697 Note: the date of the will must be 16th March 1696/7, as testator was buried 20th March 1696/7.
