Succession
The successive death of his first three heirs causes a difficult succession. Alain VI, who had been running the viscount since 1251, had invested his eldest son and namesake Alain ahead of his one-third heritage. This Alain died in 1299 without descendants of his wife Jeanne d'Avaugour. Viscount Alain VI must then pay the duke a buyback fee of 1,300 pounds guaranteed not his main vassals. As a result, he acknowledges that Duke John II of Brittany was the legitimate holder on his lands of rights to buy and sell licenses to levy on the juveigneurs of his viscounty and all his estates.
Alain VI de Rohan then faces new difficulties with his future succession. In 1301 his niece Isabelle d'Avaugour, daughter of his sister Philippa and Henri d'Avaugour and wife of Olivier de Tinténiac quotes him before the ducal court and gets a 45-pound annuity. Geoffroy his second son and heir also died in 1302 and his widow Catherine de Clisson, claiming a dower representing a third of the viscount and the areas of Rohan in the viscounty of Porhoët is a total of 500 pounds annuity. She finally gets only 100 pounds of income.
On the death of Alain VI in 1304 , his third son Josselin became viscount of Rohan and shares the property with his younger brother Olivier a cleric, but he died in 1306 , without alliance or posterity leaving the title of viscount to Olivier II de Rohan .
