Hamelin de Plantagênet (took the name of Warren)
Hamelin added the unique keep at Conisbrough, in Yorkshire. In an attempt to solve the problems of rectangular castle construction (e.g. blind spots and vulnerable corners) he designed a round keep with massive protruding buttresses. This construction confused Edward King, an 18th century historian, who wrote that the construction dated to pagan Saxon kings.
