At a meeting of the General Assembly held in this town [Warwick] June 17, 1662, on petition of Mr. Edmund Calverly, Thomas Ralph, William Burton, James Sweet and John Sweet of this town and ten or twelve more of the freemen of this colony "permission was granted them to purchase of the natives a tract of land lying together and not exceeding fower thousand akers." At the same session John Greene, James Greene, Thomas Greene, with two others, obtained leave '"to purchase fifteen hundred ackers according to the former rule."
