Captain John Bryan is thought to have been at the battle of Great Meadows (Cpt. Peter Hogg's Company) after the battle he returned to Cpt. Stobo's Company, 1754.
After living a few years at the Borden Colony, John, Mary & family moved to the Staunton River where John became owner of land upon a part of which Salem is now situated 1763. He traded his land for a par of cart-wheels & moved his family to Campbell Co., VA. There he bought 329 acres of Richard Silth & 439 acres of Benjamin Arnold. He erected a bark hut about 2 miles SE of Rustburg. He build a house further down on Molly's Creek. A lot on the place was used as a muster ground for many years after the Revolution.
