John was known as "Red Jack" and died at the age of 94 years. He took up land on Carrs Creek, between the Rockley Road and the old Lachlan Road, some 3 miles east of 'Ferndale'. John and his wife in 1890 changed the name of their property from 'Carrs Creek' to 'Green Hills' and the property remained in Larnach hands until John Edmund's youngest son, Edgar Ettles Larnach, due to failing health, sold it in the early 1980's.
There is a family story about a huge snowstorm that broke the drought of 1900. John and his son Herbert had to shovel the snow away before anyone could go to the toilet. The snow was so heavy that limbs were broken off trees from the weight.
The following has been taken from the book "Rockley Manner";
'Rockley Post Office, a telephone had been available at the local store between the hours of 9.00a.m. and 6.00p.m. about 1909. An exchange was established at Rockley Post Office on 15 October, 1914. The earliest list of subscribers in the directory in 1914 included;

John is buried at the Caloola Union Churchyard and Ann is buried at Carcoar but it is mentioned on John's headstone that Anna has been 'laid to rest' at Carcoar. These maybe her ashes?
