ADGATE FAMILIES.
The name of Adgate is firat faand at StLj^nak^ wbere
the following record, wiA a re^atry of knda and the name of
Thomas Adgate as being present at a town meeting in 1655
are the chief evidences of liis appearance tliere. It is not
known where he oauio from, or when he came, nor whether
alone or with a wife and children.
Thomas Adgate next appears at Norwidi among its first
proprietors in 1660. lie was a deacon of Mr. Iltchs chnreh,
but at what period chosen the records do not diow. He appeals
to have been twice married. The dealih of the first wife
and his marriage wit^i the scooiid are not rocordod. IBs
second wife was Mary, daughter of Mathew Marvin, and
widow of Richard Bushnell.
Ilis will, dated May 22, 1704, commences, I, Thomas
Adgate, being in the 84tli year of my age. He died July 21,
1707. His wife, Mary, died March 29, 1713.
