Biography
Samuel Stone, son of Ebenezer Stone and Margaret Trowbridge, was born 1 Jul 1690 in Newton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.[1][2][3]
Samuel settled in Framingham, Massachusetts when he was a young man. He served as clerk of Capt. Isaac Clark's troop of horse from 27 Aug to 18 Sep 1725, during the French and Indian War.[3]
He married first to Hannah Searle (d. 4 Nov 1724) on 21 May 1716 in Watertown, Massachusetts[2] and they had five children:[3]
Hannah, b. 29 Apr 1717, d. 2 Apr 1749, m. William Marean, 6 ch.;
Mary, b. 23 Jan 1718/9, d. 27 Mar 1776, m. Daniel Woodward, 8 ch.;
Esther, b. 3 Aug 1721, d. 6 Oct 1762, m. Ebenezer Hammond, 8 ch.;
Matthias, b. 21 Oct 1723, d. 20 Dec 1814, m1. Susanna Chadwick (15 ch.), m2. Huldah (Stone) Bangs-Fletcher;
Nehemiah, b. 24 Oct 1724, d. 27 Jun 1795, m1. Susanna Locke (7 ch.), m2. Martha (Stockwell) Daggett.
Samuel remarried to Mary Haven on 25 Nov 1725[2] in Framingham, Massachusetts[4] and they had one child:[3]
Samuel, b. 5 Oct 1726, d. 9 Sep 1747, unm.
Samuel died 30 Aug 1726[2] in Framingham, Massachusetts, age 36 years.[3]
On 26 Sep 1726, at the request of Samuel's widow, the administration of the estate of Samuel Stone was given to his father, Ebenezer Stone and brother, John Stone, both of Newton. The accounts of the estate name children: Hannah, Mary, Esther, Matthias, Nehemiah and a posthumous baby, Samuel.[3][5]
"Genealogical and Family History of the State of New Hampshire" Vol 2; William Frederick Whitcher, Lewis Publishing Co., 1908, page 804:
Samuel, second son and third child of Hon. Ebenezer Stone and Margaret Trowbridge Stone, born in Newton, July 1, 1690, settled in Framingham where he was the owner of an estate which was sold by his heirs in 1748. He was selectman in Framingham in 1722 and twice thereafter. He married in Watertown, May 21, 1716 Hannah Searle of Roxbury. She died November 4, 1724 and he married (second) November 25, 1725 Mary Haven [their child, Samuel Stone 1726-1746; she was daughter of Moses Haven & Mary Ballard]. He died August 30, 1726 and his widow married September 24, 1734 Deacon Ephraim Ward of Newton. The children of Samuel & Hannah (Searle) were Hannah, Mary, Esther, Matthias, Nehemiah.[6]
