{geni:about_me} Granny, or "Aunty Engela" as she was known by cousins, nephews and nieces, was born in 1998 in Pretoria. Last born of William Twentyman Taylor's children. 3 years after her youngest brother Rupert William Taylor. So they were actually very close. They had been pretty close in their junior years...
She often referred to him, as being a brave gentleman. My father Rupert, was named after him.
Granny loved travel, and family affairs. She left me her Albums, which are not all labelled, however let us see whom can be linked and named. Prior to her marriage in 1930, she had been overseas, and to Cape Town/ Cape Colony on many occasions as photos say.
The Pretoria Wedding....Taylor- Gladwyn as it appeared in the paper. Gran was married to Bertie at the St Andrew's Church, Schoeman St. Pretoria. 01/02/1930. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. E. MacMillan at 10.30 in the morning. Bertie is listed as son of the late Mr. G. Gladwyn, and Mrs Gladwyn , Cape Town. Engela the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Twentyman Taylor, former resident of Pretoria, now Rustenburg. Engela was attended by Miss Pearl Harney, the best man was Advocate Lansdown.
Present were Mr. and Mrs Zackie Taylor, the bride's brother; also Mr. and Mrs. Tom Taylor, and Harold Taylor from Rustenburg, Mr. and Mrs. Scandrett.( uncle and aunt); Sir Johannes and Lady Boeschoten, Miss Eksteen, Mr and Mrs. Lorentz, Mrs Stegman, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Maynier, Mr E. Stegman, and Miss Eileen Stahl. Many telegrams of congratulations and wishes of happiness and success were sent. Most have either names, or surnames, which I do not know, or see in the records. Grandpa and grandma Stadler, from Parow also sent telegrams.
Engela was a lifetime honory member of Women Association of RSA.
She was also a President of this association.
