MAELGWN ([1170]-Llanerch Aeron 1231, bur Strata Florida).¬â The Annales Cambriâ¶ record that "Resus filius Grifini" was captured in 1194 by "filiis suis Hoelo et Mailgono"[526].¬â The Chronicle of the Princes of Wales records that "Maelgwn son of Rhys gave the castle of Ystrad Meurug to his brothers" in 1194[527].¬â Lord of Ceredigion [Cardigan].¬â The Annales Cambriâ¶ record that "Mailgonus Resi filius" captured "Grifinus filius Resi·Ä¶fratrem suum" in Aug 1197[528].¬â The Chronicle of the Princes of Wales records that "Maelgwn son of Rhys died at Llanerch Aeron and was buried in the chapter house at Strata Florida" in 1231[529].¬â m ---.¬â The name of Maelgwn¬¥s wife is not known.¬â Maelgwn & his wife had one child:
a)¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â MAELGWN Fychan/junior [Ievanc] (-1257).¬â Lord of Ceredigion [Cardigan].¬â The Chronicle of the Princes of Wales records that "young Maelgwn son of Maelgwn son of Rhys burned Aberteivi to the gate of the castle and slew all the burgesses" in 1231[530].¬â m ANGHARAD, illegitimate daughter of LLYWELYN ap Iorwerth Fawr/the Great Prince of North Wales & his mistress ---.¬â Maelgwn & his wife had [four] children:¬â
i)¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â RHYS (-1255).¬â The Annales Cambriâ¶ record the death in 1255 of "iuvenis·Ä¶Resus filius Mailgonis" and his burial "in capitulo iuxta sororem suam"[531].¬â m ISABEL Marshal, illegitimate daughter of GILBERT Marshal Earl of Pembroke & his mistress ---.¬â Rhys & his wife had two children:¬â
(a)¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â LLYWELYN (-1264).¬â The Chronicle of the Princes of Wales records that "Llywelyn son of Rhys son of Maelgwn son of the lord Rhys·Ä¶" died in 1264 "on the octave of the epiphany"[532].¬â

ii)¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â GWENLLIAN (-1254).¬â The Annales Cambriâ¶ record the death "die Sanctâ¶ Katerinâ¶" in 1254 of "Guenllian filia domini Mailgonis"[533].¬â m MAREDUDD ap Llywelyn of Meirionydd, son of LLYWELYN Fawr/senior & his wife ---.¬â
iii)¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â MARARED (-28 Sep 1255).¬â The Annales Cambriâ¶ record the death "ante festum Sancte Michaelis" in 1255 of "Margeria·Ä¶filia Maelgonis, uxor Owini filii Mareduth de Kedeveyn" and her burial "apud Stratam Floridam iuxta fratrem suum"[534].¬â m OWAIN ap Maredudd of Cydewain.¬â
