[Translated]
If he was the son of Styrbjørn and his wife Tyra the daughter of King Harald Bluetooth is uncertain. There is no old source of the parents of Thorgil's Sprakalæg. Only 18th century speculation by Danish historian Jakob Langebek
There are no known stories about Torgil life. His wife is unknown, they had the children Gyda, Ulf and Ellif Two of Torgil's children became parents of 2 kings and a queen
Saxo writes a small characteristic of Thorgils that he "did not deviate at any point from his father's courage and manhood"

Thorgils Sprakeleg was a Danish [1] (alternative bid is a Swedish or a Skåne) name of a great grandmother, Viking chief or earl who lived on Svend Tvek√¶g's time. He was the father of Ulf Earl and thus grandfather of Svend Estridsen.

The name has been derived from the Norse √ûórgísl. [Fn 1] In recent times he is called Thrugils, Torgils, Thorgil, Thorkel and Torkel, while the nickname Sprakeleg is also found in the forms: Spraakegg, Sprageleg, Spragellag, Sprageleg, Spragal, Sprakl√¶g, Sprageleg and a number of other variants. On Swedish Torgils Sprakal√§gg and in English Thorgil Sprakling. Sometimes also called Torkel Styrbjörnsson (based on unhistoric assumptions about a kinship to the Swedish throne chieftain Styrbjörn). In the tie story, he is also called "the fast".

Regarding the peculiarity, it is particularly reflected in Thorgil's well-known children's status and position, but no concrete stories of Thorgil's life seem to have survived. However, Saxo writes this little characteristic of Thorgils that he "did not deviate at any point from his father's courage and manhood" [2] [fn 2].

According to Florence of Worcester and Saxo Grammaticus, his father named Bjorn (Latin: Ursius), but his father-in-law, moreover, is more disputed. No name has been handed over to a spouse (different places on the Internet, however, the name Sigrid [fn 3] (from Halland) abounds as the name of Thorgils' spouse without any source being stated), but it is not unreasonable to assume that either Thorgils' mother-in-law or maybe even his own mother bore the name Gytha (G√ɬ¶da), as this name is regularly used among several generations of his posterity (starting with his daughter).

Some contemporary writers will know that he fell into the battle of sword. In that case his death year could be set to the year 1000, but it seems that this information is based on a fabricated basis and probably originates from Ohlmarks' novel.

About Thorgils it can probably be assumed that he is dead before 1009, when one of his sons appears as one of the leaders of the england race that year [4], and since Thorgils' himself is always referred to in the time of the sagas in which he is mentioned, it hardly wrong to conclude that he was dead before the sons themselves began to excel

What has made Thorgils interesting for the time being is that two of Thorgils' children became parents of a total of two kings and a single queen. Of the children, Ulf Earl Earl of England and then Earl of Denmark were married to Knud the Great's sister Estrid. Estrid and Ulf had their son Svend, who in 1047 became king of Denmark and thus ancestor of the medieval Danish kings. The daughter Gytha was married to Godwin, the earl of Wessex, whose one son Harold was king of England from January to October 1066. Although Harold was only a king for a short time, and two of his brothers fell into the battle of Hastings like himself (brother Tostig had already fallen into the battle of Stamford Bridge the month before), today there is a numerous backdrop to Gytha and Godwin, as soon as any current or former European princely house descends from them (including Valdemar the Great's mother Ingeborg of Novgorod). Gytha and Godwin's daughter Edith of Wessex was married to the English King Edvard Bekenderen and was an English queen from 1045 to 1066 and then single queen to his death in 1075. Edith and Edvard had no children.

Another son, if the information about the genealogy is reliable, was Eilaf Earl (also called Eilif, Ejlif, Ejlaf and Eglaf), who are mentioned in various contexts with his brother Ulf Earl [4], and who participated on several quests, and which also signed various diplomas in the 1020s (without, however, the relationship shown on such occasions)

Little is recorded about Thorgil in historical texts: most of what appears is in reference to his children, two of whom were parents of kings. Thorgil's cognomen Sprakalägg can be translated into English as "Strut-leg". In the Icelandic Knýtlinga saga he is also called "the fast". In the 11th century, English historian John of Worcester provided a pedigree for earl Beorn Estrithson that made his grandfather 'Spraclingus' a son of 'Ursius' (i.e. urso, Latin for bear or Bjørn in Danish, Björn in Swedish).[3]
Two 13th-century writers relate folklore that derives Thorgil from the mating of a bear with a noblewoman. Danish historian Saxo Grammaticus recorded that the son born to such a union was 'named after his father' (i.e. called 'bear' - Ursius/Björn) and in turn became father of 'Thrugillus, called Sprageleg'. The Gesta Antecessorum Comitis Waldevi copies John of Worcester's pedigree but makes the Ursius, father of 'Spratlingus', an actual white bear. The 14th-century chronicle sometimes attributed to John Brompton tells a very similar tale relating to the birth of Björn, called Boresune (bear's-son), father of Siward, Earl of Northumbria, and this may represent the original form of the longer, chronologically impossible pedigree of Siward found in the Gesta that erroneously identifies Björn Boresune with Thorgil's grandson, Beorn Estrithson. It has been suggested that the role of a bear in their immediate ancestry may represent a tradition shared by relatives rather than that two independent families at about the same time both co-opted the same ancient Norwegian legend for their immediate ancestry - that Björn Boresune and Thorgil may have been brothers.[4]
In the 18th century, Danish historian Jakob Langebek suggested this bear story was allegorical, and that the brutish 'Wild' Björn, father of Thorgil, was a reference to Jomsviking brigand leader Styrbjörn the Strong (Styrbjörn Starke),[5][6] depicted by sagas as the son of Olaf Björnsson, king of Sweden.[5][6][7] Styrbjörn's wife in the sagas is stated to have been Tyra of Denmark, the daughter of Harold Bluetooth, king of Denmark and Norway.[5][6][8] No primary source supports this royal ancestry for Thorgil, a connection almost impossible to maintain because of the chronological inconsistencies. Thorgil is believed to have died circa 1009.
