[Three] siblings, parents not known.¬â The poem by Gosbert, addressed to the brother "Guillelmum Blesensium comitem", which refers to him as "Francigenum primo proavis abavisque peralto"[122]¬â suggests that their ancestry was illustrious.¬â Levillain identifies Eudes with¬â Odo, son of [Adrianus [Udalrichinger] & his wife Waldrada ---][123].¬â This seems unlikely to be correct as the name Guillaume/Wilhelm (brother of Eudes Comte d·ÄôOrlâ©ans) does not appear at all in the Udalrichinger family, although it is possible that the name could have been introduced from their mother·Äôs family.¬â A possible clue about the origins of Eudes's mother is provided by the¬â Vita Hludowici Imperatoris¬â which records the blinding of "Heribertus¬â Bernhardi¬â frater" and his exile with "Hodo consobrinus illius"[124].¬â The previous passage in the¬â Vita¬â records the confiscation of Orlâ©ans from Eudes Comte d'Orlâ©ans.¬â It is possible that he was the same person as "Hodo", although if this is correct the precise nature of the relationship between him and Hâ©ribert has not been established.¬â Assuming that Hâ©ribert was the son of Guillaume de Toulouse and his first wife Cunigundis (about which there is some doubt, as explained elsewhere in this document), and assuming also that "consobrinus" is used in the text in its strict sense, Cunegundis and the mother of Eudes Comte d'Orlâ©ans would have been sisters.¬â

1.¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â EUDES¬â ([770/80]-killed in battle [Touraine] Jun 834).¬â His birth date is estimated on the assumption that he was already mature when named for the first time in 810/11, but bearing in mind his active participation in the 834 battle in which he was killed.¬â The¬â Annales¬â Fuldenses¬â record that "Odo legatus imperatoris·Ä¶orientalium Saxonum prâ¶sidium" was captured by "Wilzis" in 810[125].¬â ¬â Einhard's¬â Annales¬â record "Uodo comes" as one of the signatories of peace with the Vikings in 811[126].¬â ¬â He became¬â Comte d'Orlâ©ans¬â after the territory was forfeited by Matfried[127]:¬â the¬â Miracula¬â Sancti Bernardi¬â records that "Matfrido, comite quondam Aurelianensi" was deprived of his honours "culpam inertiâ¶" and "Odo" appointed in his place[128], presumably dated to [828].¬â ¬â From that time, Eudes and his brother Guillaume were the most powerful supporters of Emperor Louis "le Pieux" against his son Lothaire, whose rebellion was supported by Matfried.¬â The¬â Vita Hludowici Imperatoris¬â records that "Aurelianensem urbem" was taken from "Hodone" and restored to "Mathfrido" [in 830][129].¬â The¬â Annales¬â Bertiniani¬â record that "Odo et Willelmus frater eius" were among those killed fighting "Lantbertum et Matfridem" in 834[130].¬â ¬â Merlet suggests that the battle took place in Touraine[131].¬â The¬â Annales Xantenses¬â record that "Uodo comes et Theodo abbas" were killed in 834[132].¬â ¬â The¬â Annales¬â Fuldenses¬â record the rebellion of "Mahtfredo et Lantberto" in 834 and the battle in which "Udo comes Aurelianensium et Theodo abbas sancti Martini Turonensis" were killed[133].¬â The Chronicle of Adâ©mar de Chabannes records that "Odo¬â Aurelianorum comes" was killed fighting "Lamberto¬â Nannetensi¬â comite"[134].¬â ¬â The¬â Miracula¬â Sancti Bernardi¬â names "Odonem fratremque illius Guillelmum, comitem Blesensium, Teutonem denique abbatem Sancti Martini, Guidonem comitem Cenomanensem" among those killed in battle against Lambert Comte de Nantes[135].¬â ¬â The¬â Chronica¬â Rainaldi¬â records that "Odo comes Aurelianensium, Willelmus frater eius comes Blesensium, Guido comes Cenomanensium" died in battle fighting "Lambertum" in 835[136].¬â It is more likely that this battle took place in 834, assuming that it is correct that Count Lantbert was established in Italy later that year.¬â [m firstly¬â ---.¬â The charter quoted below, which records the confirmation of a donation to Tours Saint-Martin made by Comte Eudes and his son Guillaume, suggests that Guillaume must have been considerably older than his sister Ermentrudis (whose birth is estimated to [830], see below).¬â If this is correct, it is possible that Guillaume was born from an earlier marriage of his father.¬â The possibility of such an earlier marriage is also indicated by Eudes·Äôs estimated birth date as shown above.]¬â ¬â m¬â [secondly]¬â ENGELTRUDIS, daughter of [LIUTHARD Comte de Fâ©zensac & his wife Grimhild ---].¬â The wife of Eudes is named by Nithard who records "Hirmentrude, daughter of Odo and Ingiltrud" as the wife of Charles[137].¬â However, the¬â Annales Bertiniani¬â suggest that she was the sister of Adalhard [III] (and therefore maybe the daughter of Liuthard) when they record that "Carlomannus, Hlodowici regis Germaniâ¶" sought refuge with "Adalardo, Yrmintrudis reginⶠavunculo, suo autem propinquo" after he was banished by his father following his rebellion in 861[138].¬â Comte Eudes & his [first] wife had one child:¬â
a)¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â GUILLAUME¬â (-executed 866).¬â ¬â Barthâ©lemy quotes a charter under which "Robertus·Ä¶beati Martini abbas·Ä¶et comes" confirmed donations to Tour Saint-Martin made "olim·Ä¶ab Odone quondam comite Aurelianensi avunculo nostro et Willelmo eius filio" by charter dated 20 Feb "anno XXVII regnante domino Carolo·Ä¶rege"[139].¬â ¬â As noted above, this charter suggests that Guillaume must have been considerably older than his sister Ermentrudis (whose birth is estimated to [830], see below, and therefore possibly born from an otherwise unrecorded earlier marriage of his father.¬â The¬â Annales¬â Bertiniani¬â name "Willelmum·Ä¶Odonis quondam comitis Aurelianensis filium" as "Karolus·Ä¶sobrinum suum" when recording his capture in Burgundy and execution at "Silvanectum civitatem" in 866[140].¬â

b)¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â ¬â [GEBHARD¬â (-after 879).¬â Jackman suggests that Gebhard (ancestor of the Konradiner) was the brother of Ermentrude, first wife Charles II "le Chauve" King of the West Franks, therefore the son of Eudes Comte d'Orlâ©ans[141].¬â However, this appears chronologically dubious if Gebhard is identified with "Gebehardus" who founded Kloster Kettenbach, as recorded in the charter of "Ludowicus·Ä¶rex" dated 31 Mar [845] in which the king donated land in "in pago Logonense iuxta fluvium Arda" to the monastery[142], unless he was born from an earlier marriage of his father.¬â Nevertheless, an interesting possible corroboration for Gebhard's relationship with this family is provided by¬â the¬â Annales Bertiniani¬â which record that "Adalardo Yrmintrudis reginⶠavunculo" was "propinquo" of the brothers Udo (ancestor of the Franconian Konradiner family), Berengar and Waldo who were expelled from Germany in 865[143], and in a later passage that¬â "Adalardo·Ä¶et suis propinquis Hugonis et Berengario" fought the Vikings in 865[144].¬â "Adalardo" was Adalhard [III], maternal uncle of Gebhard assuming the relationship is as shown here, and the brothers Udo, Berengar and Waldo were Gebhard's sons.¬â ¬â m¬â --- [im Nordgau], sister of Graf ERNST, daughter of ---.¬â The relationship between the sons of Gebhard and Graf Ernst is clarified by the¬â Annales Bertiniani¬â which record that "nepotes ipsius [Ernestus]" were expelled from the kingdom in 861[145].¬â If the suggestion by Jackman concerning Gebhard's affiliation is correct, Gebhard would have been the brother-in-law not brother of Ernest, married to the latter's sister.]¬â

She was the daughter of Odo, Count of Orleans and his wife, Engeltrude.
She and Charles married in 842.

Ermentrude of Orlâ©ans (27 September 823 ·Äì 6 October 869) was Queen of Franks by her marriage to Charles the Bald, Holy Roman Emperor and King of West Francia. She was the daughter of Odo, Count of Orleans and his wife, Engeltrude.
She and Charles married in 842. Their children were:
Judith of Flanders, consort of âÜthelwulf of Wessex, âÜthelbald of Wessex, and Baldwin I, Count of Flanders Louis the Stammerer (846·Äì879) Charles the Child (847·Äì866) Lothar (848·Äì865), monk in 861, became Abbot of Saint-Germain Carloman, son of Charles the Bald (849·Äì876) Rotrud (852·Äì912), a nun Ermentrud (854·Äì877), a nun Hildegard (born 856, died ?) Gisela (857·Äì874)
Ermentrude had a gift for embroidery and an interest in religious foundations. Her husband gave her the Abbey of Chelles. Ermentrude Of Orleans (also Hirmentrude, Irmintrud, 823 ·Äì 869 AD) was a Frankish noblewoman. Daughter of Odo, Count of Orleans and Engeltrude, she married Charles the Bald, King of France in 842. She was a gifted embroiderer and was interested in religious foundations. Charles gave her the nunnery of Chelles. She died in 869.
Her known children include Judith, Louis the Stammerer, and Charles of Aquitaine.
