In the Book of Possessions John Button held three houses, a garden and a yard (comprised in a single tract of three acres), and one acre in the Mill Field [BBOP 18].
Although there is no record of the original grant, there is a reference to "brother Button's" great lot at Mount Wollaston, 25 May 1640 [BTR1:54]. Then, on 25 January 1640/1, Boston selectmen gave "Our brother Button ... time to consider until the next meeting whether or no he will purchase the overplus of land which joineth to his lot at the Mount, namely upon these terms: that he shall sell to our brother Marten Saunders and our brother George Ruggels so much land of his elsewhere at the same rate he is to pay for it, that is to say 12s. per acre ...," and on 22 February 1640/1 he "accepted of the remainder of land adjoining to that land of his within the knight's neck, so called, at Brayntree, the which amounted unto 25 acres and a half, for which he is to pay 12s. per acre, in consideration whereof he is to allow to our brother Saunders and brother Ruggles that land which was his, without the fence, amounting to 22 acres ..." On 10 March 1667/8 Thomas Hill of Boston, tanner, and Ellioner his wife "the relict & administratrix of the estate left by Thomas Munt of said Boston, bricklayer," stated that Munt "in the time of his life together with the said Elener his then wife" in 1662 sold to George Ruggles of Boston, weaver, twenty-six rods with a drain for a cellar for a new dwelling house, also another parcel of four rods nearby. The deed was drawn but Munt died suddenly and did not complete it and by the present document Thomas Hill and Elinor honored the original deed [SLR 5:485-487]. On 28 March 1668 Thomas Hill of Boston, tanner, and "Elener his wife the relict and administratrix of the estate left by Thomas Munt of said Boston, bricklayer, deceased," confirmed to James Wiseman of Boston, brazier, "a parcel of land in Boston ... containing six rods and one tenth part of a rod" which "Thomas Munt in the time of his life together with the said Elenor his then wife" sold to Wiseman in 1662, but Munt died before the deed was completed [SLR 10:312-13].
