.... The family subsequently spread into other countries, and temp. Edw. II. were found in Sussex, where Sir Thomas Hoo was escheator and for six years sheriff temp. Edw. III. and had grant of a market in Wartling, and fair in other manors, and also free warren, which grants were confirmed to his widow, Isabel, in 1390.
Sir William Hoo, son of Sir Thomas and Isabel, was a man of importance during the reigns of Edw. III Rich. II. and Hen. Iv. He was a legatee under the will of Sir

Thomas Wingfield, of the Suffolk family, from which he took his second wife, bearing date 17th July, 1378; he was Governor of the castle of Oye in Picardy, and by Henry IV. was engaged in matters of great trust, particularly in his transactions with Burgundy. He died 22nd Nov. 1410, and was succeeded by his son, Thomas Hoo, who married twice, and by each wife had a son, both named Thomas.
Sir Thomas Hoo, whose monument is at Horsham, was the son by the first wife. Camden calls him the "noble Baron Hoo," and he rendered great and important services to his sovereign, alike as soldier and a lawyer. .... etc.
On the 6th June 1448, he was created a baron by the title of Baron Hoo, of Hoo, co. Bedford, and of Hastings, in Sussex. .... Dugdale did not know the date of his death, but referred only to his will as dated 12th Feb. 1455. A copy, or rather perhaps full extracts from that will are among the MSS. at the College of Arms. By an inquisition taken at Battle, on 28th April, 33 Hen. VI. it was found that he died on 13th Feb. 1455, the day after the date of his will, leaving one daughter (by his first wife, Anne, the heiress of Sir Nicholas Wychingham), aged thirty years at her father's death, then married to Geoffrey Bulleyn, and who so became ancestor to Queen Elizabeth; and three daughters (by his second wife Eleanor, daughter and co-heiress of Lionel Lord Welles), viz. 1. Another Anna, aged seven years on her father's death, who married Sir Roger Copley, of Roughey, in which chantry the monument is: 2. Eleanor, five years old, who married Thomas Etchingham, and then Sir Richard Carew of Beddington: and 3, Elizabeth, four years old, who married Sir Thomas Massingberd, and then Sir John Devenish. .... etc.
The half-brother, Thomas Hoo, represented Sussex county in parliament in 1446 and 1448, and Horsham in 1472. .... He married Alice, daughter of Walter Urrey, and died without issue 23 Nov. 1486. From the inquisition taken (after his death) at Lindfield, on 28th Oct. 3 Hen. VII. (1487), he seems to have been rather a turbulent friend of the Browns, .... On this inquistion his cousin of the half blood, Sir Wm. Bulleyn was found to be his heir; but by an inquisition taken at Dunstable in Nov. 1486, it appears that the true date of the death was 8th Oct. and not 23rd Nov. 1486, and that his cousin William Boleyn succeeded to the estates, not as heir general, but under a settlement dated 10 Dec. 13 Edw. IV. under which the heirs of Anne Boleyn, mother of William, took in default of heirs of the body of Thomas Hoo; and it was found that his heirs were the descendants of Margaret Hoo, (the sister of Sir Thomas Hoo, knt. father of both Lord Hoo and his half-brother,) who married a St. Clere. .... etc.

Sir Thomas Hoo died 23rd August, 1420, leaving two sons by different wives, both named Thomas, .... an indisputable fact, as appears by the testament of the elder brother, which commences thus; " I, Thomas Hoo, Knight, Lord of Hoo and Hastings, the xij. daye of February the yere of King Henry the sixt the xxxiij., .... , he proceeds to make bequests, to "my brother Thomas and his eyrys," and also leaves his daughters to be "rulyed, gouvernyd, and maryed, by the discecion of my wyffe, and Thomas Hoo my brother." .... etc.

He died February 3, 1455, the day after the date of his will. He was twice married; by his first wife he had one daughter named Anne, who married during her father's lifetime, Sir Geoffrey Bulleyne, Knight, ancestor of Queen Elizabeth. By his second wife he had three daughters, the eldest called Anna in some manuscripts·Äîbut by Dugdale, Jane·Äîwas aged seven at her father's death. She married Sir Roger Copley of Roughey. The names of the others were Eleanor and Elizabeth. Eleanor married first Thomas Etchingham, and then Sir James Carew of Beddington. Elizabeth married Sir Thomas Massingberg, citizen and mercer of London, and afterwards John Devenish of Hellingly.
We must now turn to the immediate object of our present notice, Thomas, half-brother of the above, who succeeded to the greater part of the family estates. His mother was Elizabeth, daughter of William Etchingham; he married early, Alice, daughter of Walter Urrey of Rusper. The mother of this Alice was one of the daughters of Sir Thomas Burcester, .... etc.

Sir Thomas de Hoo married before 16 June 1335 at which date she was aged 15, Isabel daughter and heir of Sir John de St. Ledger, who brought the Sussex and other estates to the family. In the Harleian Roll of Hoo deeds appears a charter to Geoffrey de St. Ledger dated 29 March 1265 granting to him free warren in his manor of Wartling (Sussex) and an undated charter is a grant to him of the manor of Bucksteep by Thomas de Warbleton in free marriage with his daughter Agnes, reversion to the grantor if Agnes d.s.p.
By a charter dated 20 December 1301, John son of Geoffrey de St. Ledger and Isabel his wife had a grant of free warren in Wartling, Bucksteep.
By a fine between Sir Thomas de Hoo and Isabel his wife and Dame Hawise the manor of Offley and Wartling were settled on Sir Thomas and to William his brother in tail successively rem. to right heirs of Isabel.
In 1345 there is record of a grant to Sir Thomas de Hoo and Isabel his wife and Thomas the son with rem. to William and Robert, brothers of said Thomas.
Sir Thomas Hoo who fought at Crecy and Calais is buried with his wife at St. Albans Abbey.
He was succeeded by his 2nd and eldest surviving son Sir William Hoo whose 1st wife Alice was daughter and heir of Nicholas Malmayns of Ockley, Surry.
Thomas married Isabel De St. Leger, daughter of John De St. Leger and Unknown, before 16 Jun 1335 in England.

Note that we do not show Susannah as a direct descendant of Lord Hoo but of his half-brother.
