√Öslaug Sigurdsdatter , also known as Kråka , was a mythological magician of Norse mythology that occurs in Snorre Sturlason's Edda , Völsunga saga and Ragnar Lodbrok's saga . She represents a Norse Cinderella adventure .
√Öslaug is a daughter of Sigurd Fåvnesbane and Valkyrien Brynhild , but was born by Mother's foster father Heimer [1] . After Sigurd and Brynhild died, Heimer is concerned about √Öslaug's safety. He makes a harp big enough to hide the girl and then travels around like a poor harp player, wearing the harp that hides the girl [2] .
When they arrive at Spangereid in Lindesnes in Norway they spend the night in the house of Åke and Grima. Åke thinks he could see a costly suit sticking out of the harp. He tells it to his wife Grima, and she persuades him to kill Heimer while he was asleep. However, when they break up the harps, they discover nothing but a little girl in three years who can not speak. They take care of her, but give her no care, only hard work. To conceal that she is of good family, she sobs to her face, forcing her to always be filthy and walk in dirty stuffs. Because of this, they call her "Kråka" because she is as black as the bird.

Kråka painted by Mårten Eskil Winge.
Many years later, the great hero Ragnar Lodbrok came to Norway after killing a powerful dragon and becoming king. His wife Tora Borgarhjort died from him and their two sons Agnar and Eirik. He sends two men on land to get bread. Kråka is out and fits the cows. She bites even though Grima has forbidden her to do it, thus revealing her beauty. The bread is burned because Ragnar's men see her beauty and forget to take care of the bread. When they do not have bread to give to Ragnar, they tell him instead of the beautiful girl.
Ragnar sent to her, and to test her wisdom, he announced that she should not get dressed or dressed, not hungry and not satisfied, not alone and not with others. Kauka then threw a fishing net over him, grazed in an onion and was followed by a dog. On board the ship, she impresses Ragnar. Each of his verses Krupp returns with a counterversion. He offers her a queen's coat, but she thinks it's more appropriate that she wears carbon black filler like before. She, on the other hand, wants to receive the coat if he returns and takes her with him.
Krakka tells Grima and √Öke that she knows their homicide at Heimer. She does not want to leave them to Ragnar, but predicts that every single day in the rest of their lives will be worse than the previous one, and the last one will be the worst. Then she leaves them and joins Ragnar when he returns. He immediately wants to go to bed with her, but she rejects him saying that they are only going to share a bed when they are married so that her children do not become spare sons . She asks that they for three nights stay in the same bed, however, separately. Ragnar agrees with this, but on the third night he does not get on and lay on her despite her prophecy that the child who is born will be bad. Later she gives birth to a boy with only cartilage where it is usually bones. It is Ivar and he was called for Ivar Beinlause .
Then Ragnar Lodbrok visited Eystein Bele , also called "Ilrå", who was his son of sound in Svitjod . Eystein persuaded Ragnar to marry the Swedish princess Ingeborg and dismiss √Öslaug. While Ragnar is home again, three birds had already told Kauka about his plans. She therefore meets him and tells him the truth about her precious race. In order to prove that she really is the daughter of Sigurd who had killed F√•vne , a dangerous dragon or snake, she tells her that she will bring forth a child whose eye will testify of the unhurt. This happened and she gave birth to Sigurd, the son of Sigurd Orm-in-Eye . When Eystein Bele heard that Ragnar had changed his mind, he rebuked him, but was killed by Ragnar's sons on Kr√•ka's command.
During his last move to England , Ragnar Lodbrok had not heard Kr√•ka's warnings, which would be fatal to him. When Ragnar was thrown into the worm of King Earl II of Northumbria , he was protected by magic shirt that Kauka had sewn for him. It was only when this shirt was removed that the snakes could bite Ragnar Lodbrok and thus kill him. According to saga literature, Ragnar poached the poem Kr√°kum√°l (Kråkkv√¶det) the last night he was alive. The name of the poem reads Kråka.
Most researchers (F. Jonsson [3] , P. Meulengracht S√∏rensen) believe that Ragnar Lodbrok was probably a historical person, but the stories about him and his wife (s) mentioned in the various ancient sagas are regarded as more and less free poetry.
