Marion,
As near as my wife and I can determine, Mourning was Joel's granddaughter.
Since Ezekiel is not listed, we assume, that he probably died or left his family and Piety and her two children are living with Joel and Sarah. Piety later married a Henry Nichols and you might find Mourning listed with this surname.
They were married before 27 Dec 1859 when she had a daughter by Nichols.
Anyway, this might give you another lead.

Wish I could find out if Joel was married before the date in his Bible as we have another batch of Pridgen's in Scott Co., Ms that claim Joel. We're going to have to go to Jackson and see if we can find anything about this new family claim.

2) Your Bible pages lists:

Mourning Ashley would have been born ca 1846 (age 4 in 1850)

3) Mourning Ashley could be daughter of Piety since they are listed in the household with Joel and Sarah; or Mourning could be dau of James Ashley & Elizabeth.

Lynn, The reason I am searching out Joel Pridgen and Mourning Ashley is because I found on the IGI for MS that a Mourning Ashley married Dallis Grayson on 7 Nov 1867 in Clarke County, MS.

Dallis Grayson is enumerated in the Household of a Cameron Grayson. I am trying to establish if the James Grayson enumerated in the same household as Dallis, is OUR James Grayson and if Cameron is his father. I know this may seem like the long way around, but I can't seem to find any other clues on this Cameron!

Based on the Pridgen - Ashley info, I'm convinced Mourning belongs to this group. Now if I can just find some clues about her and her life with Dallis Grayson. Maybe then I can find someone that's researching the same branch!

By the way, my husband's family (the GRAYSONs) lived in Clarke County, MS, and he was raised in Meridian in Lauderdale Co. That is until he moved to TX in the 1980's.

I have been trying to find out more about Joel Pridgen, son of Hardy Pridgen and Mourning Tisdale. You mentioned previously that another branch of Pridgens in Missippi claim Joel as theirs. Would this be Josiah Ellis Pridgen and William C. Pridgen?

I have been looking around a little in Johnston County, North Carolina. I have found indications that Joel was there with a first wife and that Josiah Ellis is his son.

CONCLUSIONS
1. Joel Pridgen married ______________ Richardson, daughter of Willard and Mildred Richardson.

2. Joel Prigen and his wife lived in Johnston County, North Carolina at least until 1817. (Joel and his brother Larkin in Sumner County, TN by 1818, marriage bond of Larkin Pridgen and Millie Miers).

3. Josiah Ellis Pridgen is the son of Joel Pridgen and his first wife ____________ Richardson.

4. Mystery--What happened to Joel's first wife--will of her father William Richardson giving her son Josiah Ellis Pridgen a negro but not mentioning her seems to indicate that she was dead. However, census records of Josiah Ellis Pridgen in Cherokee Alabama (1850, 1860, and 1866) list an Elizabeth Pridgen, age 60, 66, and over 30 respectively. Is this his mother and Joel's first wife?

5. Josiah Ellis Pridgen left Johnston County, North Carolina sometime between 1834 and 1840--long after his father Joel Pridgen left.

6. One more document I found but can't place my hands on right now (I'll keep looking) had William Richardson giving 125 acres in Johnston County, North Carolina to Josiah Ellis Pridgen (who would have been less than 5 years old). Same 125 acres that Joel Pridgen is taxable for in 1814, 1815, 1816 and 1817?

7. When Josiah Ellis leaves Johnston County, North Carolina by 1840, his negro appretince is bound over to Calvin Richardson (husband of Piety Pridgen, daughter of Hardy, sister of Joel, and aunt to Josiah Ellis).

Question for you, Lynn. I have Joel in the 1830, 1840, and 1850 federal census (Mississippi) and in the 1841, 1845, and 1853 Mississippi state census. If it is believed that Joel died in 1863, do you have him in the 1860 census? What about 1820?

You are a gold mine of information. I haven't looked in the Ms state census but he is definitely not in the 1860 census. I believe he was living with Primma in Jones Co., due to the fact that she had lost her husband in the war in 1863 and was applying for his pension. My David D. Pridgen, Joel's son, signed an affidavit that her husband was deceased and that he was a member of the CSA at the time of his death. This was filed in Jones Co. To my recollection, Joel was in Hinds Co., in 1830, and in Clark Co., in the 1840 and 1850 census.
I'm going to print out your E-Mail and read over it carefully as you have given me some unknown information that I need to study. I spent a day or two in the court house in Covington Co, Ms during the first part of July, researching David D. and his son Eli but didn't find anything on Joel. I guess the next trip will be to Jones Co.

Sorry--I meant the location of Joel Pridgen (married second Sarah Autry) in any 1820 or 1860 census. You are right, Joel was in Mississippi at least from 1830 to 1853. I think Cuz Lynn has said that Joel possibly died about 1864.

About Josiah Ellis Pridgen (Joel's son from first marriage to ______________ Richardson?), you are right again--he lived in Cherokee, Alabama and his estate was probated there in 1884. How do you have an exact birthdate for him?

Are there any other Pridgen cousins out there that descend from William C. Pridgen and Elizabeth Harvey? It would seem that he is a possible son of Joel because in a pension application, William C. Pridgen's son William H. H. Pridgen, says his father William C. Pridgen was born in Johnston County, North Carolina. I think someone has previously posted information about William C. Pridgen having a second wife, ________ Cockrell. I have William C. Pridgen living in Mississippi in 1850 and 1880. Any one know his whereabouts in 1860 and 1870 and when he dies?

I'm sorry I am not being very clear about Joel Pridgen. From the Bible Pages of Joel Pridgen (posted on the Pridgen Web Page), I think it is pretty clear that he was married to Sarah Autry and raised a family in Mississippi (David Deriah Pridgen, Piety Pridgen, Elizabeth Pridgen, Primma Pridgen, etc.)

Because Joel was 37 years old when he married Sarah Autry and other groups have claimed Joel as an ancestor (according to Cuz Lynn), the question has been raised in the past about whether Joel was married prior to marrying Sarah Autry.

The records of Johnston County, North CarolinaI that I mentioned in my previous post make a very good case to say that Josiah Ellis Pridgen (Cherokee, AL) was born in Johnston County, North Carolina and was a son of Joel Pridgen and first wife ____________ Richardson.

William C. Pridgen (Mississippi) is also a very probable son of Joel Pridgen and first wife ___________ Richardson, because William C. Pridgen's son William H. H. Pridgen in a pension application (dated 15 Octo 1910) states his father W. C. Pridgen was born in Johnston County, North Carolina. (there do not seem to be very many other Pridgens in Johnston County, NC except Joel Pridgen and his father Hardy Pridgen. Hardy Pridgen actually lived in neighboring Nash County, but apparently owned 331 acres in Johnston County, NC).

Like Cuz Lynn, I am interested in knowing Joel's death date and location. I am hoping to find probate records, etc. that may shed further light on who his children were. I think Cuz Lynn is especially interested in where Joel and Sarah are buried and any further information on whether Sarah is Native American, etc.

It is great to have so many people trying to fit all the pieces together!

Maybe I should clarify what information that I have on Joel and where I got my information.
Until some 8 years ago, no one in my Ms branch of the Pridgen's had a clue who David Deriah Pridgen's father was. All of David's grandsons told the same
story; that he had come to Ms in the early 1800's and settled in Clark Co. and helped build the town of Shubuta.
A few years ago, a Davis family attended our reunion and we found out about Joel. They gave us some hand written notes that stated that Joel was born in NC and an exact date of death which I have never been able to prove. Last year, we obtained copies of the Bible Pages, which are posted on the Pridgen Pages.
Some two years ago, we learned about William C. Pridgen and his family being in Scott County, Ms and claiming that Joel was their patriarch. We haven't been able to prove this but there is a missing gap from 1818 to 1830 that we can't document as to his whereabouts. It is entirely possible and feasible that William was the son of Joel by a first marriage and he followed his father to Ms.
The peculiar thing about Joel is his Deed of Gift to Sarah Autry and filed in Ms. Here, he gives his homestead and furnishings to her and he calls her by her maiden name and not stating that she was his wife. His Bible is very clear that Sarah is his wife but, as my wife points out, the handwriting is the same and it is possible that Sarah or some member of his family filled out the pages after he died, which is not uncommon. This is not a will, which seems strange but the conclusion I have reached is that Joel was married before he left NC.
It seems to me that a deed of gift wouldn't be necessary if a will was made unless he wanted to protect her from some outside claim, i.e. children from a previous marriage.
I also think that it's strange that David's grandchildren didn't know about Joel as they often told my Dad and me many stories before they died and he was never mentioned.. Wonder if there's a skeleton in the closet somewhere?

    Emma Corine Bombard said in a telephone conversation that her mother
    married a man named Free after Charles Everett died, but that they didn't
    live together long. Emma Corine was about 15 years old when he left,
    making it circa 1914.

    Notes for FREE:
    Mr. Free was Emma Davis' second husband. She married him circa 1913.
    Emma Corine Bombard Welborn says that Mr. Free and Emma "didn't live
    together very long." Emma Corine was about 14-15 years when Mr. Free
    left, so this would have been around 1914. Per telephone conversation
    with Emma Corine Bombard Welborn on March 26, 2000.

    Notes for CHARLES EVERETT BOMBARD:
    Charles Everett's granddaughter, Emma Corine Bombard Welborn, says that
    he dealt in the horse trade, in Pleasant Hill. During a telephone
    conversation on May 13, 2000, she said that Charles Everett owned a lot
    of land in Pleasant Hill but Annie sold it after his death. Upon Annie's
    death the estate went to her two sons Walter and Fred Wallace.

    Corine Bombard Welborn said during a telephone conversation on May 13,
    2000: " When my brother was 17,he changed his name to Bumbard. I told
    him, 'You may be a bum, but I'm not.' We don't know why he changed the
    name. My grandmother Bombard [Olivia Annie Davis Bombard Wallace] was
    angry about it."

  • De Republiek der Verenigde Nederlanden werd in 1794-1795 door de Fransen veroverd onder leiding van bevelhebber Charles Pichegru (geholpen door de Nederlander Herman Willem Daendels); de verovering werd vergemakkelijkt door het dichtvriezen van de Waterlinie; Willem V moest op 18 januari 1795 uitwijken naar Engeland (en van daaruit in 1801 naar Duitsland); de patriotten namen de macht over van de aristocratische regenten en proclameerden de Bataafsche Republiek; op 16 mei 1795 werd het Haags Verdrag gesloten, waarmee ons land een vazalstaat werd van Frankrijk; in 3.1796 kwam er een Nationale Vergadering; in 1798 pleegde Daendels een staatsgreep, die de unitarissen aan de macht bracht; er kwam een nieuwe grondwet, die een Vertegenwoordigend Lichaam (met een Eerste en Tweede Kamer) instelde en als regering een Directoire; in 1799 sloeg Daendels bij Castricum een Brits-Russische invasie af; in 1801 kwam er een nieuwe grondwet; bij de Vrede van Amiens (1802) kreeg ons land van Engeland zijn koloniën terug (behalve Ceylon); na de grondwetswijziging van 1805 kwam er een raadpensionaris als eenhoofdig gezag, namelijk Rutger Jan Schimmelpenninck (van 31 oktober 1761 tot 25 maart 1825).
