The Line Family (Anna Mariah Campbell Family) in Story County
The Line family moved to Nevada, Story Co., Iowa in 1851, when Anna Mariah was 15 years old. Anna Mariah had inherited $2,250 from her biological father. In the 1860 Federal Census of Story Co. She is recorded as having $2,000 in real estate and $250 in personal property. She may have married John Campbell in 1855, however no record has been located of a marriage and it is unlikely that there was a marriage. In fact it was known in the Taylor family that there had been children born in the mid 1800s in an unmarried relationship. In the 1856 Iowa Census Anna Mariah Campbell was living with John Campbell. In the 1856 census of Iowa. He is listed as a land owner, a member of the militia, and a farmer. Interestingly the census also reports that Anna Mariah and John Campbell are married, no record has been found of a marriage. Anna Mariah was probably pregnant with Mary J Campbell at the time of this census. In 1856 Anna Mariah Campbell gave birth to a daughter, Mary J. Campbell. She had a son, Frank Andrew Campbell on Oct 1, 1858. Both children were born in Nevada, Story Co., Iowa. There may or may not have been a divorce in 1859, no record has been located. They separated in 1859. Anna Mariah Campbell married John Thomas Wyatt on Aug 4, 1859. From the Story County Marriage Register Volume 1, page 6: the marriage was solemnized on Aug 4, 1859 by G.A. Kellogg, county judge, license returned Aug 8, 1859. John Thomas Wyatt was born Oct 19, 1840 in Bartholamew, Indiana. He died July 26, 1919 in Marshalltown, Iowa at the Iowa Soldiers Home. They had a son, John Wyatt, born in 1861 in Nevada, Story Co., Iowa. Anna Mariah and John Thomas Wyatt separated, in 1862. John Thomas Wyatt enlisted in the US Army on Aug 22, 1862 and served in the Civil War.. He entered Regiment D of the 40th Iowa Infantry on Sept 13, 1862. He was discharged from the Army on Feb 8, 1864 at Madison, Wisconsin with a disability discharge. John Thomas Wyatt is buried in the Iowa Soldiers Home Cemetery at Marshalltown, Iowa. In the 1860 Federal Census John Thomas Wyatt and Anna Mariah Campbell Wyatt and Anna's and John Campbell's children and John Thomas Wyatt were married were listed as living in Nevada, Iowa. Interestingly Jacob G. Miller and his wife, Elenore Miller were also listed (the next family to be counted on that record). This was the second marriage for both Jacob G Miller and Eleanore Miller. There were 3 Miller children living in that family and they were Jacob G. Miller's children from a previous marriage. Eleanore Miller (Jacob Miller's wife) was born in Penn. as were all of the Miller Children. This family may have been related to Anna Mariah but no record has been found indicating that relationship. In the 1870 Federal Census of the Richland Township, Chelsea, Tama Co., IA; Anna Mariah (Wyatt) Campbell’s children Mary J Campbell age 14 and Frank Andrew Campbell age 12 were living with Jacob G. Miller and his wife Ellenore Miller. Also listed in this census is the value of real estate owned and personal property owned. Jacob G. Miller is listed with $2400 in real estate and $750 in personal property. The majority of what he had in 1870 is the same real property inherited by Anna Mariah Campbell at the death of her father in PA. Apparently it was transferred to Jacob G. Miller or to Elenore Miller, in return for caring for Anna Mariah’s children, or it may have been a condition of the inheritance.
