In 1676, at age 22, Richard emigrated to Boston. There is no known record of him again until 6 years later, arriving at Pennsylvania a few months before William Penn, to claim land as a Quaker. The question remains, was he a Quaker at emigration, moving to Boston (a terrible place for a Quaker, due to religious persecution), did he become a Quaker in Boston, or did he become a Quaker to take advantage of the offer of free land? Boston Quaker history is rich with stories of Friends coming there despite persecution, and the eventual turnaround of the public opinion there. Even if he was an opportunist, which is not necessarily the case, he stayed in the faith his whole life, and raised his family in the faith, and we find Quakers at least 4 generations beyond him. Below is an excerpt from *Armstrong, William C., The Lundy Family and Their Descendants of Whatsoever Surname with a Biographical Sketch of Benjamin Lundy, (A.M.), Print, 1902, Online at Archive.Org, detailing his second marraige from meeting records.
