Youngest son. Came to Singapore from Madras in 1880. He studied at St JosephGÅ ??????à?????????????/s Institution in Singapore and he won the KingGÅ ??????à?????????????/s Scholarship in 1905 together with F. R. Martens and R. L. Eber, both also from SJI. He went to Edinburgh University and in five-and-a-half years graduated MA, BSc, MB and ChB. Besides his studies, he took a keen interest in student literary activities. In his last year, he became the first Easterner to be elected a member of the Committee of Management of the Edinburgh University Union. He returned to Singapore in 1911 and for a short period worked with Dr Noel L. Clarke. His health, however, had begun to give way directly after he left Edinburgh and to recoup he gave up private practice and made some voyages as a shipGÅ ??????à?????????????/s surgeon. He died in Singapore in 1915.
