George and Honora, and had a son Matthew, and a son Thomas. Matthew is a half-brother of Edward Griswold, the Colonist.he latter of whom was the ancestor of the two Govs. Griswold, resided in Kenilworth, England, where they had a third brother, Thomas. These two brothers came to new England in 1639, in a vessel sent out by Mr. William Whitney. Edward settled in Poquonock, Windsor, CT. iswold married in 1617, and had son Matthew, and son Thomas.dsor and Saybrook, CT 1639-40. Married on Oct. 16, 1646 to Anna WOLCOTT (b. 1620; d. 1679), daughter of Henry WOLCOTT (1578-1655) and Elizabeth SAUNDERS (1584-1655). Children of Matthew and Anna GRISWOLD: Elizabeth married John ROGERS; Anna married Abraham BRONSON; Matthew married Phoebe HYDE; Sarah married Thomas COLTON (son of George COLTON and Deborah GARDNER); and John. "He speedily assumed a prominence at that place; was Deputy to the General Court in 1654, and, in the same year, was directed by the Court to go with Capt. Mason to Pequitt and join with Gov. Elizabeth 17 Oct. 1670 to John Rogers of New London, the found[er]. of the sect of Rogerenes; and being 12 Oct. 1676 divorc[ed]. from him m[arried]. 5 Aug. 1679, Peter Pratt, wh[o]. d[ied]. 1688, and she had in 1694, third h[usband]. Matthew Beckwith, and bore ch[ildren]. to ea[ch], and d[ied]. July 1727; Ann m[arried]. 2 Sept. 1674, Abraham Brunson of Farmington; and Sarah m[arried]. capt[ain]. Thomas Colton of Springfield. ter the other three brothers followed them. Matthew settled in Saybrook, Connecticut having become an agent of Lord Fenwick. There he received a grant of land in 1645 which became the foundation of a large fortune. There he met and married Anna (or Annah or Hannah) WOLCOTT in 1646. Matthew was a lawyer by profession, though by trade a stone-cutter. He made a stone table over the grave of his father-in-law, and a note in the State Library states that Matthew Griswold thus commemorated the graves of many of the early settlers, but unfortunately there is no monument over his own last resting place in the cemetery at SaybrookDeath:died at home
