OBITUARY (By William H. Nelson)
Edith C. Woodard, 84, pioneer of Saguache, passed away at her home in Denver Sunday morning, according to word received here. Funeral services were held in Buena Vista Wednesday morning and interment was beside her husband, who passed away in 1923.
Edith Catherine Jones was born May 8, 1853 at Carrollton, Ill., and spent her childhood in her native state.
She came west in 1874 to Saguache with other members of her family who settled here.
She was married to Edward H. Woodard in 1876 at Saguache and they made their home here for a decade, moving to Buena Vista in 1886. Mr. Woodard, a Civil War veteran, was active in affairs of the community there, holding several county and town offices.
Mr. and Mrs. Woodard and family moved to Hotchkiss on the western slope in 1904 and a year later to Cedaredge where they stated until 1912.
Mrs. Woodard was a member of the Baptist church.
Surviving her are: three daughters, Mrs. Mabel Dullahan and Mrs. Jessie Lund of Denver, and Mrs. Grace Johnson of Oswego, N. __; three sons, R. O. Woodard of Denver, W. H. Woodard of Fruita,
